Wanda Collins Davis
Wanda Mae Collins Davis was born the daughter of Joe Davis Collins and Ida M. England Collins on November 22, 1936 in Mammoth Spring, Arkansas and departed this life on October 5, 2011 in Thayer, Missouri at the age of 74 years.
She was united in marriage June 27, 1953 in Mammoth Spring, Arkansas to William Fred Davis, who preceded her in death November 1, 2000.
She is survived by three children, Freddie Thompson and husband, Tab of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas, Rick Davis of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas and Sheila Amundson and husband, Tim of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas; seven grandchildren, Melanie, Brandon, Samuel, Savannah, Joseph, Mariah and Ashley; six great-grandchildren; one brother, J.D. Collins of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas; three sisters-in-law, Margie Collins, Frances Davis and Willa White and husband, Jim; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Ida Collins; her husband, Fred Davis; one son, William “Butch” Davis; five brothers, Lanis, Leonard, Lemuel, Lawrence and Clarence Collins; one infant sister and two brothers-in-law, T. R. and Howard Davis.
Wanda was employed at the Tri-County Shirt Company in Salem, Arkansas as an inspector for many years. She enjoyed fishing, cooking and loved being a mom and grandma. Her favorite times, were the big family dinners with all her loved ones present, for good food, old stories and lots of laughter.
She was a faithful member of the Church of Christ in Mammoth Spring and will be remembered as a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and good friend. She will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Graveside services will be Saturday, October 8, 2011 at 12:00 Noon in the Riverside Cemetery at Mammoth Spring, Arkansas with Lee Moses officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday at the cemetery from 11:00 AM until time of the service. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery with services under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc. in Thayer.
Jacob Bearden

Jacob Lynn Bearden, the son of Tammy Taylor Bearden was born on June 2, 1990 in Jonesboro, Arkansas and departed this life on October 1, 2011 in Mount Vernon, Missouri at the age of 21 years.
He is survived by his mother, Tammy Bearden of the home in Myrtle, Missouri; one sister, Brittany Bearden of Myrtle, Missouri; maternal grandparents, Bobby Joe and Linda Wicker of Myrtle, Missouri; maternal great grandmother, Lena Johnson of Myrtle, Missouri; paternal great grandparents, Jack and Geneva Bearden of Brookland, Arkansas; one aunt, Shelly Wicker and husband Dewayne, of Jonesboro, Arkansas; special cousins, Jarrod and Courtney Wicker of Jonesboro, Arkansas; five great aunts and uncles, Richard McGhee, Darrell McGhee and wife, Alice and Dortheta Young and husband, Todd; other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his maternal great grandfather, Gene McGhee and cousin, Brian McGhee.
Jacob was a graduate of Couch High School, as a member of the class of 2008. He was a deck-hand on the AEP Riverboat for several months but returned to his home and job as assistant manager of Steve’s Alignment in Mammoth Spring, Arkansas.
Jacob enjoyed hunting, fishing, canoeing, driving his trucks, motorcycles, four-wheelers, riding his horse and most of all, spending time with his family and friends.
He was of the Church of Christ faith and will be remembered as a loving son, grandson, brother, nephew, cousin and a loyal friend. He will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Graveside services will be held Monday, October 3, 2011 at 3:00 PM at Jeff Cemetery with Jake Lawrence officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:30 PM at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer. Burial will be in Jeff Cemetery under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc. in Thayer.
Rita Dougherty

Rita Mae Dougherty was born the daughter of Herman E. Mills and Pauline Cantrell Mills on October 5, 1948 at Thayer, Missouri and departed this life October 1, 2011 at Brooke Haven Health Care in West Plains, Missouri at the age of 62 years.
She was united in marriage to Dana Dougherty, who preceded her in death.
She is survived by four sisters, Hazel Estep of Rogers, Arkansas, Helen Ramsey of West Plains, Missouri, Janice Bentley of Springfield, Missouri and June Wyatt of West Plains, Missouri; several nieces and nephews, great nieces, great nephews, many friends, cousins, one special aunt, Joyce Mills and a very special brother-in-law, Jim Ramsey, who showed so many acts of kindness to Rita.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Pauline Mills; one sister, Georgia Reef and her husband, Bobby; one brother-in-law, Phil Estep and several aunts and uncles.
Rita was employed as bookkeeper for West Star Gas Company in Wichita, Kansas for 22 years before returning to West Plains, where she was employed as clerk in the jewelery department at J.C. Penny until her retirement.
Rita was a kind, loving and gentle person and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at 2:00 PM in the Carter Funeral Home Chapel at Thayer with Brother David Honeycutt officiating. The family will receive friends Monday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Thayer Cemetery with services under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc. in Thayer.
Bonnie Agee

Bonnie Lee Agee was born the daughter of William J. Diles and Sarah M. Arnold Diles on June 1, 1928 at Thayer, Missouri and departed this life September 27, 2011 at Shady Oaks Health Care in Thayer, Missouri at the age of 83 years.
She was united in marriage May 3, 1947 in Paragould, Arkansas to James W. Agee, who preceded her in death January 16, 2007.
She is survived by one sister, Lurene McGhee of Thayer, Missouri; two sisters-in-law, Marjorie Diles and Roberta Morgan (James); one brother-in-law, Charles Agee (Betty); many nieces and nephews; several great nieces and nephews; several great-great nieces and nephews; several great-great-great nieces and nephews and one great-great-great-great niece, all of whom she loved and cherished as they did her. They were truly her children of the heart!
She was preceded in death by her parents, William J. and Sarah Diles; her husband, J.W. Agee; two sisters, Gladys Cotham and Vida Hall and two brothers, Orville and Dorris Diles.
Bonnie was a dedicated employee, working at McKesson Drug Company in Memphis, Tennessee for 19 years before moving to Thayer, where she worked at a local convenience store, Humphries Jewelry for 14 years and Cara Lee’s Dress Shop in Mammoth Spring for 15 years.
Her passion was her family and the pleasure they brought into her life. Many treasured memories will be remembered as they shared in Bonnie’s favorite pastime, eating good meals together.
She was a faithful member of the Thayer Church of Christ and will truly be missed by her family and many friends.
Funeral services will be Thursday, September 29 at 2:00 PM in the Carter Funeral Home Chapel at Thayer with Lee Moses officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 1:00 PM until time of service. Burial will be in the Thayer Cemetery with services under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc. in Thayer.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her memory, be made to the Paragould Children’s Home and left at the funeral home.
Viola Dunsmore

Viola Josephine Dunsmore, born July 5, 1921 near Thayer, Missouri, the daughter of Ed and Ethel Langley Arnold, departed this life September 20, 2011 at the age of 90 years.
Viola (Vi) graduated from Couch High School in Oregon County. She married Harold Dunsmore, the father of her children, in 1940. She spent most of her life in Brookfield and Kansas City, Missouri. She lived in Southern California where she married Fred Koenig, later returning to Kansas City and Lake Waukomis, Missouri. Both preceded her in death.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Ethel Arnold, sister Marie and brother-in-law, Hershel Arnold and son-in-law, Dick Davolt.
Survivors include her two children, Dwayne and his wife, Eleanor Dunsmore of Lake Waukomis, Missouri and Bobbie Davolt of Kansas City, Missouri. She was “Nannie” to her grandchildren that she adored, Robin and Jim Atkins of Bonita Springs, Florida; Michael Maddox of Kansas City, Missouri; Stephanie and Tim Kallas of Independence, Missouri; great-grandchildren, Nickolas Kallas, Ashley Kallas, Seth Crede and Chris Kallas; a very special great-great-granddaughter, Gracelynn Joy Crede; nephews, Elden (Sandy) Arnold and Curtis (Carol) Arnold; other relatives and friends.
While in Brookfield, she was an active member of Park Baptist Church, Florence Chapter of Eastern Star and Hanna Hull Chapter of Daughters of American Revolution. She was a current member of Unity Church in Kansas City, Missouri.
She spent her working years in real estate, retailing and retired from KPL Gas Service.
She enjoyed growing and caring for her flowers. Her special “Holiday Meals” were the delight of her family, the large quantities of food provided many “doggie bags”. Her special smile and melody of her greetings inspired her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She will truly be missed.

Verble Mauldin

Verble Mauldin was born the daughter of Mason Watson and Nora Denny Watson on September 8, 1912 at Alton, Missouri and departed this life September 18, 2011 at Shepherd’s View Assisted Living in Alton, Missouri at the age of 99 years.
She was united in marriage December 23, 1931 at Alton, Missouri to Thurman Mauldin, who preceded her in death on April 30, 1995.
She is survived by two daughters, Bonnie Johnson and husband, Wayne of Thomasville, Missouri and Barbara Johnson of Alton, Missouri; six grandchildren, Dennis Johnson and Chris of Thomasville, Missouri, Ruth Warren and Dennis of West Plains, Missouri, Randy Johnson and Hallie of West Plains, Missouri, Tommy Johnson and Laurel of Alton, Missouri, Paula Miller and Buck of Thomasville, Missouri and Nancy King and Mike of Alton, Missouri; twelve great grandchildren, twelve great-great grandchildren; other relatives and many friends and neighbors.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mason and Nora Watson; her husband, Thurman Mauldin; son-in-law, Don Johnson; one granddaughter, Linda Diane Johnson and an infant sister, Emily.
She was a store clerk, working for Old Brothers Department Store and Wallace-Owens Grocery Store for several years.
Ms. Verble was never idle, always making the most of each day. She could be seen gardening, making soap, rendering lard, piecing quilts or just cooking a meal, hoping someone would stop by for a visit and a bite to eat. She will be remembered for her delicious chicken and dumplings and fried pies.
Verble was a lifetime and faithful member of Smyrna Free Will Baptist Church. She was a devoted wife, Mother, grandmother, friend and neighbor. She will truly be missed by her family, friends and the community in which she lived.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at 1:00 PM in the Smyrna Free Will Baptist Church at Alton, Missouri. The body will lie in state at the church Wednesday from 11:00 AM until time of the service. Burial will be in the Smyrna Cemetery with services under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc. in Thayer.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Smyrna Cemetery Fund and left at the Alton Bank.
Daisy Tilley

Daisy Marie Tilley was born the daughter of Herman Matthews and Ethel Strong Matthews on October 21, 1934 in Broadwater, Missouri and departed this life September 18, 2011 in West Plains, Missouri at the age of 76 years.
She was united in marriage on March 15, 1964 in Malden, Missouri to Elmer Tilley, Jr., who preceded her in death on April 1, 2008.
She is survived by three children, Glenda Yates and husband, Ron of Thayer, Missouri, Michael Tilley of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas and William Earl Tilley of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas; two grandchildren, Michaela Tilley and J.J. Yates; one brother, Leo Matthews of Herculaneum, Missouri; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Ethel Matthews; her husband, Elmer Tilley, Jr.; one infant grandchild; two brothers, Earnie and Robert Matthews and one sister, Linda White.
Daisy enjoyed gardening and cooking. She was a dedicated homemaker, a devoted caregiver and housekeeper, a loving baby sitter and was known by many children as “Grandma Daisy.”
Mrs. Tilley was a faithful member of the Christian Tabernacle Church at Hardy, Arkansas and enjoyed teaching the Children’s Sunday School Class throughout the years. She will be remembered as a kind and caring person, a loving mother and grandmother and a friend to all. She will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Funeral services will be Saturday, September 24, 2011 at 10:00 AM in the Carter Funeral Home Chapel at Thayer with Brother Jason Jackson officiating. The family will receive friends Friday, September 23rd from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Eagles Rest Cemetery near Hardy, Arkansas with services under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc. in Thayer.
Juanita Jackson
Juanita Jackson was born the daughter of William Jackson and Olive Goff Jackson on January 6, 1920 at Thayer, Missouri and departed this life September 13, 2011 at Shady Oaks Health Care in Thayer, Missouri at the age of 91years.
She is survived by two nieces, Diane Hilburn and husband, Gary of Cushman, Arkansas and Suzanne Nelson and husband, Kenny of Thayer, Missouri; two great nephews, Kevin Vinson and Justin Nelson; one great niece, Holly Newman; three great-great nephews, Aaron Silas, Mitchel Nelson and Brayden Newman; two great-great nieces, Carson Nelson and Ashlyn Nelson; other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Olive Jackson, one sister, Babe Sullivan and one great niece, Marnie Edwards.
Ms. Jackson was an elementary school teacher, retiring from the Thayer School System after teaching third grade for a total of 34 years.
Juanita was a life-long resident of Thayer, Missouri. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, a member of the Order of Eastern Star, an avid reader and bridge player.
She will truly be missed by her family and friends.
Memorial services will be Sunday, September 18, 2011 at 2:00 PM in the Carter Funeral Home Chapel at Thayer under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc. in Thayer.

Edwin Wiggs

Edwin Cecil Wiggs, born February 19, 1931 in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of Leamon Smith Wiggs and Lavetta Irene (Vincent) Wiggs, left his earthly home September 12, 2011 at the age of 80 years.
He was united in marriage to Nella McKee on October 6, 1956 by his father, Leamon Wiggs, at the family home in Alton, Missouri. This union was blessed with two sons.
He is survived by his wife, Nella of the home in Alton, Missouri; sons, Maurice Wiggs and wife, Beth and Stacey Wiggs, all of Alton, Missouri; grandchildren, Nicholas Wiggs and Carrie of Thayer, Missouri, Tiffany Miller and husband, Jared of Republic, Missouri, Alex Wiggs of Moberly, Missouri and Adam Wiggs and fiancee’, Sandra of West Plains, Missouri; great grandchildren, Cameron, Tristan, Lainey and Zane; sisters, Freda Dunkin and husband, Hanford of Bellflower, Missouri and Ruth Berry and husband, Bill of O’Fallon, Missouri; several nieces and nephews and a host of extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leamon and Lavetta Wiggs and sisters, Eleanor Dodson and Cecelia Pingleton.
Edwin was a Veteran of the United States Army, serving his country during the Korean War, earning the rank of sergeant. During his deployment, he operated heavy equipment building roads for troops and often was under fire while performing his duties. His service was from February 5, 1952 through November 4, 1953.
After his military service, Edwin found a career with General Motors in St. Louis, Missouri. He was a dedicated employee, retiring as a foreman after 30 years. After retirement from General Motors, Edwin returned to Alton, where he operated a farm and back-hoe business. Later he and his son, Maurice, built, owned and operated Spare-time Bowling.
He was of the Baptist faith, a member of the Alton Masonic Lodge No. 255, AF and AM and a life-time member of the NRA.
Ed will be remembered for the many enjoyable hours he spent visiting and serving others throughout his lifetime.
Funeral services will be Friday, September 16, 2011 at 1:00 PM in the Bailey Chapel Church near Alton with Brother Robert Wiggs officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until service time at the church. Burial will be in Bailey Cemetery with services under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc. in Thayer.
