Roger Dean Martin was born on June 19, 1967 in Salem, Arkansas to Jessie and Clara (Pressley) Martin of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas. Roger passed away on November 23, 2016, at his home in Dallas, Texas, at the age of 49 years.

Roger graduated from the Mammoth Spring High School as co-valedictorian in 1985. He attended the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Arkansas, earning a Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree.

Roger’s interest in politics started at an early age. As a junior in High School, he was selected to be a page for Congressman Bill Alexander in Washington, DC. Roger worked in the “War Room” in Little Rock, Arkansas during former President Clinton’s first bid for office. He worked in Washington, DC as an intern for Senator Dale Bumpers and in the office of Secretary of The Treasury, Lloyd Bentsen. Roger later worked in President Clinton’s office in Little Rock, Arkansas as director of special projects.

In 1998 he graduated from law school in Little Rock, Arkansas. As a Corporate lawyer, he lived and worked in Atlanta, Georgia and Dallas, Texas until he had to take an early retirement due to health problems.

Roger is survived by his parents, sister, Rhonda Martin of Mountain Home, Arkansas, sister, Leah Ann Iaguessa and brother-in-law, Tony of Ash Grove, Missouri, niece, Anisha Martin and friend, Evan Smethurst of Los Gatos, California, and nephew, Joseph Iaguessa of Ash Grove, Missouri. Other survivors include aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.
Special and loyal friends include Dan Hale, Jeff Hinkson, Chris Lowden, Alex Remington and Rob Wilson, all of Dallas, Texas.

Roger treated everyone like he wanted to be treated and was a loving son, brother, uncle and a loyal friend to many.

Funeral service for Roger Dean Martin , age 49, of Dallas, Texas, formerly of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas will be held, Sunday, November 27, 2016 at 2:00 PM at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer, Missouri, with Brother Jared Russell officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 1:00 PM until service time.

Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery under the direction of Carter Funeral Home in Thayer.

In lieu of flowers donations are requested for Best Friends Animal Society at www.bestfriends.org or American Red Cross at www.redcross.org. These were two of Roger’s favorite charities.

Robert Lee Vines was born the son of Lee WilburnVines and June Brooks (Vines) on November 6, 1949, in,Wilson Arkansas, and departed this life on November 24, 2016, at his home, near Mammoth Spring, Arkansas, at the age of 67 years.

He is survived by three children, Barbara Taylor and husband, Leonard of Corinth, Texas, Robert Lee Vines Jr. and wife, Sandra of Merigold, Mississippi, and Robert Shane Vines and wife, Allison of Horn Lake Mississippi; one grandson, Caleb Harris of Pensacola, Florida; three brothers, Woodrow Vines, and Malcolm Vines both of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas and Norman Vines of Grand Rapids, South Dakota; two sisters, Valerie Ard of Pearl, Mississippi and Lola Kay Fields, of Flowood, Mississippi; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and June Vines.

Robert enjoyed traveling and his job as a tour bus driver, driving for Great Southern Coaches out of Jonesboro, Arkansas for several years.

Robert loved his family, his church family and his neighbors. He will truly be missed by all.

Fred Louie Zirnstein was born the son of Fred Louie Zirnstein, Sr and Ruth (Guffey) Zirnstein on May 31, 1931 in Emporia, Kansas and departed this life on November 23, 2016 in Fulton County Hospital in Salem, Arkansas, at the age of 85 years.

He was united in marriage on March 2, 1957 in Topeka, Kansas to Berniece Barnard.

He is survived by his wife, Berniece Zirnstein, of the home in Mammoth Spring, Arkansas; several nieces; nephews; great nieces and great nephews; other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Ruth Zirnstein; two brothers, Clovis and Calvin Zirnstein, and one sister, Clois Ensminger.

He was an equestrian and enjoyed quarter horses. His favorite race horse “Leo Jacquita” was a pleasure to watch and won him many trophies and ribbons.

He was a member of the Mammoth Spring Church of Christ. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, and a loyal friend to all.

Graveside services will be Tuesday, November 29, 2016, at 2:00 PM at the Riverside Cemetery with Barry O’Dell officiating.

Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, with services under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc. in Thayer.

Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Mammoth Spring Church of Christ. St. Jude contributions may be left at the funeral home.

Mary Elizabeth Irene (Hobbs) McCutchen was born the daughter of Homer Hobbs and Hattie (Collins) Hobbs on February 11, 1934, in Thayer, Missouri, and departed this life November 18, 2016, at Shepherd’s View Assisted Living in Alton, Missouri, at the age of 82 years.

She was united in marriage on July 29, 1955, in Salem, Arkansas, to Charles McCutchen, who preceded her in death on December 16, 2010.

She is survived by three sons, Boyd McCutchen of Thayer, Missouri, Charlie McCutchen and wife, Teresa of Ozark, Missouri and Mike McCutchen and wife, Shirley of Thayer, Missouri; several grandchildren; several great grandchildren; other relatives and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Hattie Hobbs; her husband, Charles McCutchen; one daughter-in-law, Cheryl McCutchen; and one brother, Lloyd Hobbs and wife, Virginia.

Irene was employed by Puritan Fashions in Thayer for several years. She was later employed by Ozark Gas Company and Thayer Gas Company, working as a Secretary for many years. After her semi-retirement, she enjoyed working for Mac’s Knick-Knacks in Mammoth Spring, Arkansas.

She was a Christian and attended the Thayer Assembly of God Church as long as her health permitted.

Irene enjoyed yard work, growing flowers, and her many cats. She was deeply devoted to her family and friends and will truly be missed by all.

Funeral services will be held, Tuesday, November 22, 2016, at 2:00 PM at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer, Missouri, with Pastor Dennis Davis officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 1:00 PM until service time.

Burial will be in Thayer Cemetery under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc. in Thayer.

Elizabeth “Beth” L. McCain Roberts was born the daughter of Herman McCain and Sylvia Cropper McCain on January 28, 1940, in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and departed this life on November 13, 2016, at her home in Couch, Missouri, at the age of 76 years.

She was united in marriage on June 7, 1956, at Jobe, Missouri, to Allen Dale Roberts, who preceded her in death on August 7, 2004.

She is survived by two daughters, Debbie Peeler and husband, Burney of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas and Pam Brooks and husband, Bobby of Couch, Missouri; five grandchildren, Amanda Crawford and husband, Mark of Thayer, Missouri, Allen Brooks and wife, Kimberly of Couch, Missouri, Shalyn Barton and husband, Samuel of Couch, Missouri, Chad Brooks and wife, Sara of Couch, Missouri, and Brittany Collins and husband, Brent of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas; special niece, Shana Cochran; special friends, Mary Jane Honeycutt and Shirley Caldwell; other relatives and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Sylvia McCain; her husband, Allen Dale Roberts; and one brother, Martin McCain.

Beth earned a Master’s Degree in Education and a Master’s Degree in Counseling. She spent most of her career as a counselor at Thayer Schools…During her time there she advised many children.

She was a Christian and a member of the Thayer Church of Christ.
Beth was an avid gardener and an excellent cook. She enjoyed fishing and loved her cats.
God and family were always first in her life. She will truly be missed by her family and many friends.

Funeral services for Elizabeth (Beth) Roberts, age 76, of Couch, Missouri, will be held Saturday, November 19, 2016, at 11:00 AM at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer with Shawn Deree and Danny Cropper officiating.

The Body will lie in state Saturday, November 19th, from 8:00 AM until service time at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel.

Dorothy Ellis
Dorothy (Woolford) Ellis was born on June 13, 1920 in Koshkonong, Missouri. She is preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Allie (Guy) Woolford; by her husband, Dr. C.H.(Claude) Ellis of Thayer; and by her beloved younger brother, Bill Woolford.

She is survived by her beloved daughter, Kay Ellis, of Thayer. She is also survived by her two nieces, Terrie (Woolford) Sanders of Grain Valley, Missouri and Karen (Woolford) Givens of Corpus Christi, Texas.

Dorothy was involved in politics on the county, state and national level most of her life. She was most proud of her 14 years as Oregon County Commissioner.
As an environmentalist, she was known for her help in establishing the Irish Wilderness as a federally protected wilderness area. One of her proudest accomplishments was when the Grand Gulf became a reality as a Missouri State Park. In 1984 the Department of Natural Resources presented her with the Resource Steward Award. She was also given the Sol Feinstone Award for individual conservation activism. Dorothy served on numerous boards and committees throughout her life, fighting for the causes that were dear to her.

She was an avid reader and thrived on the beauty of nature that she celebrated each day. Dorothy was of the Methodist faith, but experienced her God and spirituality each day in the natural beauty and in her many cherished friendships and relationships that surrounded her.

Visitation and a celebration of her life with friends will be held on Tuesday, November 15, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Carter Funeral Home in Thayer, followed by burial and a brief graveside service at 1 p.m. at Thayer cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the charity of your choice or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. St. Jude donations can be made on line or can be left at the Carter Funeral Home of Thayer or West Plains.

Barbara Lou Rogers was born the daughter of Newt Rogers and Rendy (Ivey) Rogers on April, 20, 1937, in Mammoth Spring, Arkansas, and departed this life on November 11, 2016, in Alton, Missouri, at the age of 79 years.

She is survived by many special nieces, nephews; great nieces, great nephews; other relatives and many friends, including friends and staff, she made while living in Shepherd’s View Assisted Living in Alton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Newt and Rendy Rogers; four sisters Neva Watson, Neda Collins, Lola Mills, and Mattie Hartwig; and three brothers,Wilburn Rogers, Milburn Rogers, and Cleo Rogers.

Barbara enjoyed crafts. She liked to quilt, and make potholders to give to her family and friends and was known for making a few good sales for her potholders. She also enjoyed working jigsaw puzzles.

She was a Christian and attended the Thayer Church of Christ.

She will truly be missed by her family and many friends.

Burial will be in Field Creek Cemetery, near Mammoth Spring, Arkansas, under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc. in Thayer.

James “Jim” Thomas Jones was born the son of Lotus Rudd Jones and Evelyn Annette Parrish Jones on April 25, 1942, in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and departed this life on November 10, 2016, at his home in Thayer, Missouri, at the age of 74 years.

He was united in marriage on June 8, 1961, in Memphis, Tennessee, to Delia Ann Montgomery.

He is survived by his wife, Delia Ann Jones of the home in Thayer, Missouri; three sons, Troy Wayne Jones, Scott Leon Jones and Eric Sean Jones; nine grandchildren, Caleb, David, Cassidy, Claire, Nathan, Brandon, Avery, Makala, and Ariana; and great granddaughter, Liliana.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lotus and Evelyn Jones; one son, Clint Leon Jones; and two sisters, Blanche Phillis and Evelyn Loth.
Jim was a member of the Thayer Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He was a Pioneer of Jehovah’s Witnesses and enjoyed many hours of teaching the Bible.

He served in the United States Army for three years. He then attended college and graduated college with a bachelor’s degree. Later, Jim was a Parole Agent for thirty-three years with the California Department of Corrections.
Jim loved children. He also loved animals, especially owning and riding horses. He was also an avid fisherman and continued his water activities as a scuba diver.

He will truly be missed by his family, his community and his congregation.
