Verdie Plympton

Verdie Jo (Brewer) James Plympton was born the daughter of Mose Brewer and Bernice (Clark) Brewer on May 27, 1922 in Myrtle, Missouri, and departed this life November 13, 2013 in Hollister, Missouri at the age of 91 years.

She was united in marriage on June 21, 1947 in Los Angeles, California to Charles L. James who preceded her in death on May 16, 1976. She was united in marriage in Forsyth, Missouri to Edgar Plympton who preceded her in death on March 16, 1995.

She is survived by two daughters, Sharon Chapman and husband, Bob of Fort Collins, Colorado, and Debra Salmon of Hollister, Missouri; five grandsons, Christopher and Matthew Thomas, both of Ventura, California, Billy Thomas of San Diego, California, Eric Salmon of Hollister, Missouri, and Vance Salmon and wife, Penny of Springfield, Missouri; one granddaughter, Andrea Stegeman and husband, Jay of Estes Park, Colorado; three great grandchildren, Alexis, Nicole, and Jack; two sisters, June Harpole of St. Louis, Missouri, and Jessa Nell Powell and husband, Tom of Thayer, Missouri; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mose and Bernice Brewer; her husbands, Charles James and Edgar Plympton; and two sisters, Geraldine Wiley and Linda Brewer.

Verdie was a proud homemaker who loved and cared deeply for her family and friends. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxilliary in Forsyth, Missouri, and enjoyed bowling and playing shuffleboard.

She was a Christian lady of the Baptist faith and will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother, a wonderful sister, a kind and caring aunt, and a true friend. She will truly be missed by all who knew her.

Graveside Services for Mrs. Plympton will be held Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. at the Thayer Cemetery in Thayer, Missouri with Brother Darrell Mitchell officiating.

Mrs. Plympton’s body will Lie-In-State at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer on Monday, November 18th from 9:00 A.M. until 7:00 P.M.

Burial will be in the Thayer Cemetery in Thayer, Missouri.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society and may be left at the Funeral Home.
