Robert Eugene “Bob” Underwood was born in Thayer, Missouri, the son of Roy Underwood and Artha Storms Underwood on February 2, 1939 and departed this life on August 8, 2020 at his home in Thayer, Missouri, at the age of 81 years. 

He was united in marriage to Peggy Hull Underwood and to this union, three children were born.

Bob is survived by one daughter, Susan Dills and husband, Joe of Thayer, Missouri; one son, Mark Underwood and wife, Missy of Thayer, Missouri; three grandchildren, Savannah Smith and husband, Derrick, Sarah Carey and husband, Cory, and Mitchell Underwood; three great grandchildren, Brooklyn White, Ava Smith  and Jaxton Carey; his special horse daughter, Delia Oakes and husband, Randy; many nieces and nephews; other relatives; and countless friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Artha Underwood; one son, Steven Underwood; one brother, Billy Joe Underwood; and one sister, Reta Cochran.  

Bob was a Christian and of the Baptist faith.

He graduated from Thayer High School in 1956, and, after a few jobs, he began working for the Frisco Railroad.  He was a brakeman and worked for 38 years until he retired from BNSF in 2001.

Bob was a hobby farmer and loved breeding and raising Missouri Fox Trotters.  He also enjoyed raising bluetick coon hounds.  Bob especially liked early morning coyote hunts with his grandson Mitchell.

He was devoted to his family and his family always came first.  He will surely be missed by his family and all that knew him.

Funeral services for Robert Eugene ”Bob” Underwood will be held on Wednesday, August 12, 2020, at 2:00 PM at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer, Missouri with Brother Charles Cochran officiating.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 11, 2020 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Carter Funeral Home in Thayer, Missouri.

Burial will be in Thayer Cemetery in Thayer, Missouri with services under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc. in Thayer, Missouri.
