Opal Lois (Whitman) Honeycutt was born the daughter of Everet Mark and Daisy (Shride) Whitman on August 28, 1920, in Wirth, Arkansas, and departed this life January 12, 2013, at West Vue Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in West Plains, Missouri, at the age of 92 years.

She was united in marriage on September 15, 1937, in Randolph County, Arkansas, to Nathaniel Honeycutt, who preceded her in death on July 16, 1973.

She is survived by thirteen children; Dr. David Vernon Honeycutt and wife, Lou Ellen, of Monett, Missouri; Loretta Mills and husband, Leroy, of Thayer, Missouri; Viletta Lawson and husband, Robert, of Maryville, Tennessee; James Honeycutt and wife, Carole, of Republic, Missouri; Jerry Honeycutt and wife, Denise, of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Michael Honeycutt and wife, Kathy, of Whitehouse, Texas; Juanita Kathlene Swartzel and husband, Stanley, of Greenback, Tennessee; Glen Honeycutt and wife, Karen, of Neosho, Missouri; Sherman Honeycutt of Danville, California; Althea Kittrell and husband, Stan, of West Plains, Missouri; Kendall Honeycutt of Boca Raton, Florida; Regina Caldwell and husband, Stanley, of Thayer, Missouri; and Trevor Honeycutt and wife, Denise, of Dexter, Missouri; twenty-five grandchildren, thirty-five great- grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mark and Daisy Whitman; her husband, Nathaniel Honeycutt; one grandson, Eric Honeycutt; seven sisters, Vivia Spangler, Violet Whitman, Gladys Whitman, Alice Newsom Potter, Eva Johnson, Carrie Anderson, and Cora Dodge; and two brothers, Russell Whitman and Johnny Whitman.

Opal’s life revolved around her church and family. She was a proud homemaker and an avid gardener, growing a variety of beautiful flowers and vegetables.

She was a member of the Church of Christ. She will be remembered by her family as a loving and caring mother and grandmother, and will truly be missed by all.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at 2:00 PM in the Church of Christ at Mammoth Spring, Arkansas. The family will receive friends Monday, January 14, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions be made to the Paragould Children’s Home or, St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. Memorial donations may be left at Carter Funeral Home.
