Funeral services for Mary A Thompson, 83, of West Plains, Missouri, will be held on Friday February 17th at 10a.m., under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc., West Plains.

She was born the daughter of the late George Dewey Powell and Roxie Fern (Roy) Powell on October 27, 1933 at Alton Missouri.
She was survived by her children, Withro Barton, Mary Jo Knight and husband Denis and Shelly Thompson and husband Mark Hitson, Dan Thompson and wife Mary and Lisa Robertson and daughter Sam; her grandchildren, Joseph Barton, Tyffany Knight, Tyler Knight and wife Moon, Holly Phillips and son Ryder, Mark Hitson Jr., Brandi Harrison and husband Jeremy, Wendy Prewitt and husband Jeremy, Jodi Purgason and husband Cory, thirteen great grandchildren and many special cousins.

She was preceeded in death by her husband Joseph Barton, parents George and Roxie Powell, brother, Raymond, son Alan Thompson and grandson Shane Coble.

She retired from Cox Medical Center after 30 years of service, then volunteered at OMC for fifteen years. She loved spending time with her family and friends.

Visitation will be held on Thursday February 16, 2017 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Carter Funeral Home, West Plains.

Following funeral services burial will be at Cave Springs Cemetery outside Alton, Mo.

    Ms. Mary was a very special lady. She and I had some great times talking and laughing. I hate that we lost touch with each other the last couple of years, but I still think of her often.
