Larry Max Harper was born the son of Posey Harper and Ora (Ary) Harper on March 17, 1946, in Thayer, Missouri, and departed this life on July 5, 2014, at his home in Joplin, Missouri, at the age of 68 years.

He was united in marriage at Mammoth Spring, Arkansas on May 9, 1970, to Diana Cain.

He is survived by his wife, Diana Harper of the home in Joplin, Missouri; one son, Larry Brian Harper of Joplin, Missouri; one daughter, Susan McWilliams and husband, Paul of Owasso, Oklahoma; two grandsons, Casen and Riley Cox; two brothers, James Harper and wife, Sharon of Thayer, Missouri and Jerry Harper and wife, Anita of Thayer, Missouri; his mother-in-law, Marilyn Parker of Mountain Home, Arkansas; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Joe Harper; and a sister, Janice Houts.

Larry grew up in Thayer and graduated from Thayer High School with the class of 1964. He was a Veteran, proudly serving his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Upon his discharge from the military, he worked for RKL Construction in West Plains, Missouri and after moving to Joplin, he was employed with Crossland Construction.

Larry was a member of the National Alliance on Mental Illness and VFW Post 7831 in Mammoth Spring, Arkansas.

He enjoyed the outdoors, especially deer hunting and being with his family and friends. He will truly be missed.

Memorial Services will be Saturday, July 12, 2014, at 2:00 PM in the Carter Funeral Home Chapel at Thayer with Erman Croney officiating.

Military Honors will follow at the Thayer Cemetery with services under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc. in Thayer.
