Larry Bechtel

Larry Allen Bechtel, the son of Ralph William Bechtel and Emma Mae (Lawson) Bechtel, was born July 20, 1948 in Doniphan, Missouri, and departed this life November 16, 2013 in West Plains, Missouri at the age of 65 years.

He was united in marriage on May 14, 1967 in Thayer, Missouri to Lois Melton.

He is survived by his wife, Lois Bechtel of the home in Thayer, Missouri; one son, Billy Bechtel of Jamestown, Missouri; one daughter, Stacy Olbricht and husband, Keith of Paintsville, Kentucky; six grandchildren, Brianne and Brendan Bechtel; and Benjamin, Kaitlyn, Shelby and Emma Jean Olbricht; one sister, Beth Lawson of Knoxville, Tennesse; other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Emma Mae Bechtel.

Larry was a Vietnam Veteran, earning several medals while proudly serving his country in the United States Navy. After returning from military service, he was employed at SEI in West Plains, Missouri, retiring after twenty-six years of service.

He and his wife, Lois, shared in the enjoyment of being outdoors, working in both their flower and vegetable gardens. Soon this passion turned into the well-known Bechtel Nursery, which they owned and operated for twenty years.

Larry also loved fishing, hunting and most of all, spoiling his grandkids.

He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather, a kind and caring brother, and a loyal friend. Larry will truly be missed by all who knew him.

Memorial Services will be Thursday, November 21, 2013 at 7:00 PM at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until service time. Services will be under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc. in Thayer

    So sorry about Larry passing. Larry was a special person who will be missed. He was in our youth group at church as a young man. He is at rest now.
