Joseph “Joe” Lawrence Brown was born the son of Lawrence Adam Brown and Joanna Belle Warren Brown on August 27, 1935, in Chanute, Kansas, and departed this life December 5, 2017, at his home in Mammoth Spring, Arkansas, at the age of 82 years.

He was united in marriage on June 4, 1955, in Mammoth Spring, Arkansas, to Ima Jean Dodge, who preceded him in death on August 18, 1969. He was united in marriage on April 23, 1971 at Thayer, Missouri, to Kathryn Pearl Posten, who preceded him in death on July 7, 2016.

He is survived by five children, Terry Brown of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas, Kathryn Bowers and husband, Claude W. “Bill”of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas, Robert Brown and wife, Kristy of Thayer, Missouri, Ed Brown and wife, Rebecca of Thayer, Missouri, and Keith Teichmer and wife, Suzanna of Salem, Arkansas; thirteen grandchildren, Ted Brown and wife, Jackie, Amanda Brown, Rachel Tallant and husband, Aaron, Adam Brown and wife, Sammie, Andrew Brown, Mason Brown, Nathan Bowers, Curtis Bowers, John Brown, Caleb Brown, Seth Brown and wife, Destinee, Autumn Orth and husband, Andrew, and Alex Ulrich; five great grandchildren, Mollie, Maggie, Jace, Braxton, and Gabrielle; other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Joanna Brown; two wives, Ima Jean Brown and Kathryn Brown; and one daughter, Luanne Brown.

Joe was a graduate of Mammoth Spring High School, graduating as Salutatorian of the Class of 1953.

He was a carpenter, building and assisting with the construction of many homes in the area.

Joe was an avid collector of antique tractors, machinery, and also steam engines. He enjoyed the thrill of the hunt and excitement of a rare collector’s find. Joe’s collection was known as one of the largest in the area.

He also enjoyed his team and wagon and especially the trail rides with his friends.

He was a member of the Rustic Wheels Club in Harrison, Arkansas and the Ozark Older Iron Club in Cabool, Missouri.

Joe was a Christian man and one of the first members of the First Church of God in Thayer, where he faithfully attended as long as health permitted.

He was a loving and devoted family man and will truly be missed by his family, church family, and many friends.

Funeral Services for Joe Brown, age 82, of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas, will be held Saturday, December 9, 2017 at 10:00 AM at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer, Missouri.

The family will receive friends at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, December 9th from 9:00 AM until service time at 10:00.

Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery near Thayer, with services under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc. in Thayer.
