Jessa was one of five children and carried a deep love for both her family and her faith throughout her life. On April 25, 1953, she united in marriage with the love of her life, Thomas “Tom” Hurschell Powell, in St. Louis, Missouri. Together they built a life centered around love, faith, and family, and were blessed with three children. Jessa and Tom shared sixty-six wonderful years together filled with devotion and cherished memories.

A faithful Christian, Jessa was an active member of Clifton Freewill Baptist Church in Thayer, Missouri. She especially loved singing with the congregation and praising the Lord with all her heart.

Jessa found great joy in caring for her family, especially through her cooking and the time spent together around the table. In her later years, she enjoyed quiet evenings watching her favorite programs, including Perry Mason, Murder, She Wrote, and just about any cowboy-themed series. Those simple moments brought her comfort and happiness.

She leaves behind her children, David D. Powell, Stephen P. Powell, and Susan M. Powell; her beloved grandson, Ben D. Powell; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will treasure her memory.

Jessa was preceded in death by her parents, Mose and Bernice Brewer; her loving husband, Thomas “Tom” H. Powell; and her sisters, June Harpole, Verdie James, Geraldine Wylie, and Linda Gaye Brewer.

Jessa will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her, but her gentle spirit, unwavering faith, and love for her family will continue to live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
