Jerry Vaughn Strain was born the son of Milburn Strain and Hila Wales Strain on May 11, 1944 in Thayer, Missouri, and died October 28, 2016, in Willow Health Care in Willow Springs, Missouri at the age of 72 years.

He was united in marriage, on June 20, 1964, in Thayer, Missouri to Sue Combs, who proceded him in death on September 20, 2004. He was united in marriage on October 14, 2006 to Debbie Barton Brawley.

He is survived by his wife, Debbie Strain of Willow Springs, Missouri; two daughters, Kimberly Strain and Kayla Melton and husband, Derek, two granddaughters, Jacy and Kenzley Melton all of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Milburn and Hila Strain; his wife, Sue Strain, and one sister, Janet Grooms.

Jerry was a graduate of Thayer High School, graduating with the class of 1962. He was a successful farmer in this area, owning both dairy and beef operations. He served on numerous boards and committees, including the Oregon County Soil and Water Conservation District board for many years.

He was a Christian and served as Deacon for the Clifton Free Will Baptist Church for several years. He later became a member and attended Thayer Free Will Baptist Church.

He enjoyed quail hunting, cutting and baling hay, and was an avid Cardinal and Chiefs fan.

Jerry was deeply devoted to his family and will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving and caring father and grandfather. He will truly be missed by his family, friends and the community in which he lived.

Funeral service for Jerry Strain , age 72 of Thayer, Missouri, will be held Monday, October 31 2016, at 2:00 PM at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer with Brother James Ray and Brother Richardson Robinson officiating.

Visitation will be Sunday, October 30th 2016, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer.

Burial will be in Thayer Cemetery with services under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc in Thayer.

    My sympathy to Jerry’s family. So sorry to hear of his passing. I knew him most of his life, he will be missed in the community he loved and lived in.
