Jane Scaggs, 87, daughter of the late Henry Thomas and Vera Idel (Hawkins) Montgomery was born December 7, 1935 in Tucumcari, New Mexico.

Jane was married January 6, 1951 in Bernallo, New Mexico to Johnie Scaggs, who preceded her in death January 20, 2002.

Jane is survived by four children, Johnie James Scaggs and wife Nancy, Dublin, Georgia; Guy Henry Scaggs and wife Betsy, Paint Rock, Texas; Vera Cordelia Alsup and husband Bill, Peace Valley, Missouri, and Lee Robert Scaggs, Peace Valley, Missouri; two daughters-in-law, Pam Scaggs-Seaton, Rogers, Arkansas and Leslie Scaggs, West Plains, Missouri; one sister, Emily Russell, San Bernardino, California; thirty-one grandchildren; thirty-three great grandchildren, and one on the way, and one great great grandchild.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two children, Paul Douglas Scaggs and George Allen Scaggs; three sisters, twin sister, June Majors, Juanita Scott and Idel Smith, and one grandson, Joseph Scaggs.

Jane worked at DRS in West Plains until the age of 75, when she retired. She enjoyed painting and hanging wallpaper. She loved sitting with the older people, “her being older than they were”. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She was a member of the Curry Street Church of Christ, West Plains, Missouri.

Memorial contributions may be made to Barnett Cemetery, Curry Street Church of Christ, or the Memphis School of Preaching, and can be left at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 7, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Curry Street Church of Christ, West Plains, Missouri, with Evangelist Hank Lawrence officiating.

Visitation will be held Friday, October 6, 2023 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Carter Funeral Home Chapel, West Plains.

Burial will be held in Barnett Cemetery, Howell County, Missouri, under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc., West Plains.

    I’m so sorry for your loss of your sweet Mom. She was a wonderful Christian woman. Have many memories of her at Junction Hill events. Prayers for comfort to her family.

    Lee, Vera and family. I just found out about your Momma’s passing. I was so saddened to hear this. She was always so kind and nice to me. Hugs, prayers and peace for you all.
