James Frost

James J. Frost was born the son of Elishia Frost and Nova Bell (Strain) Frost on March 20, 1927, in Alton, Missouri, and departed this life October 15, 2014, in West Plains, Missouri, at the age of 87 years.

He was united in marriage on January 24, 1945, at Alton, Missouri, to Joie Smith, who preceded him in death on May 24, 1993. He was united in marriage December 8, 1994, at West Plains, Missouri, to Vera Smith.

He is survived by his wife of nineteen years, Vera Frost of Alton, Missouri; five daughters, Kay Childers and husband, Ronnie of Alton, Missouri, Faye Holesapple and Aline Walker, both of Alton, Missouri, Christine Simmons and husband, Ben of Prattsville, Arkansas and Geraldene Nelson of Eugene, Oregon; eleven grandchildren; a host of great grandchildren; three brothers, Leonard Frost of Alton, Missouri, Willie Frost of St. Louis, Missouri, and Floyd Frost of Alton, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elishia and Nova Frost; four brothers, Joy, Eugene, John and Roy Frost; one half sister, Rhoda Hollis; two half brothers, Paul Barton and Everett Frost; and one grandson, Scott Morgan.

James was an outdoorsman. He worked in the timber business, owning and operating Frost Sawmills for many years. He also was an inventor, creating and selling a unique sawblade sharpener, used in many area sawmills.

In his pastime, he enjoyed woodworking, being with friends at deer and turkey camp, and traveling the country in his RV.

James was faithful to attend the Evening Time Lighthouse Church in Alton, as long as health permitted.

He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father and grandfather, and a loyal friend. He will truly be missed by his family and the community in which he lived.

Funeral services for James J. Frost, age 87, of Alton, Missouri, will be held Sunday, October 19, 2014, at 2:00 PM at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer with Brother Forest Farmer officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 12:00 Noon until service time.

Burial will be in the Bailey Cemetery near Alton, Missouri, under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc. in Thayer.

Mr. Frost’s body will Lie-in-State at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer on Saturday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Evening Time Lighthouse Church near Alton and may be left at the Funeral Home in Thayer.

    so sorry to hear of james passing, he was a good man and a good uncle, he also had a half sister Nora Barton Pingleton, daughter of Everett Barton and Nova Strain Barton Frost. RIP james.
