George Reed

George Franklin Reed was born the son of James Lonzo and Ella Javan Dora (Stubblefield) Reed on March 3, 1919 in Gatewood, Missouri and departed this life December 1, 2012 at National HealthCare in West Plains, Missouri at the age of 93 years.

He was united in marriage February 28, 1938 in Alton, Missouri to Fay Hall, who preceded him in death on June 23, 1993.

He is survived by James Lee Reed and wife, Rosalee of Myrtle, Missouri and Dale Lee Reed and wife, Lee Ann of Mountain Home, Arkansas; three grandchildren, Jarvis Reed and wife, Kelli, Chris Reed and wife, Rebecca, and Nicole Fay Reed Hearting; one grandson-in-law, Dean Bennett; nine great grandchildren, Derrick Bennett and wife, Tricia, Austin, Dalton, and Summer Reed, Eli and Gracie Hearting, Katy Woodruff, and Cassie and Sara Springer; one great great granddaughter, Katherine Bennett; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Babe and Dora Reed; one granddaughter, Karen LaRue Bennett; six brothers, Hanford, Elmer, Willie, Verner, Tillman, and Troy Reed; three sisters; Birdie May Gazaway, Ola Crapo, and Lillie Smith.

George was a good welder and could often be found in his shop creating new items or repairing used ones. He was a plain spoken man, yet you always knew where you stood with him.

He was a member of the Walnut Grove Free Will Baptist Church and a retired dairy farmer.

George enjoyed southern gospel music, attending gospel concerts and listening to tapes while traveling.

He loved life, enjoyed his grandchildren and family and will truly be missed by all who knew him.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at 2:00 PM in the Carter Funeral Home Chapel at Thayer with Jarvis Reed officiating. The family will receive friends Monday, December 3rd from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Walnut Grove Cemetery near Myrtle, Missouri with services under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc. in Thayer.
