Jerry Len Powell was born the son of Gilbert Powell and Shirley J. (Wright) Powell on March 30, 1967, in Salem, Arkansas, and departed this life on February10, 2017, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, at the age of 49 years.

He is survived by his mother, Shirley Powell Torrey and husband, Edward of Alton, Missouri; two children, Brandon “Bo” Powell and Stacia “Deah” Powell, both of Dadeville, Missouri; one brother, Robert Powell of Thayer, Missouri; one very special nephew, Len Powell of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas; five aunts, Marlene Simer, Deana O’Mary, Grace Palmer, Viola Herndon and Goldie Davenport; two uncles, James Holesapple and Jesse Herndon; other relatives and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Gilbert Powell.

He was of the Protestant faith and was Godfather to Abrielle Manning.

Jerry was a graduate of Thayer High School, graduating with the class of 1985. He continued his education at Oklahoma State University in Okmulgee, Oklahoma.

Jerry founded Paintless Dent Repair in 1988 at Springfield, Missouri. He perfected his technique, trained numerous individuals in this profession, and continued his business operation worldwide.

He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. One of his most memorable hunts was with Ted Nugent, hunting feral hogs. He also cherished his hunting trips out west with his Dad and Robert.

Jerry is known as a brother to many and was loved by everyone he met. His legacy will be a timeless memory of him. He loved his family and many friends beyond measure. He will truly be missed by all.

Funeral services for Jerry Len Powell, age 49, of Thayer, Missouri, will be held Sunday, February 19, 2017  at 2:00 PM at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 PM until service time on Sunday.

Burial will be in Thayer Cemetery.

Richard Dean Garrison was born the son of Jess Garrison and Alpha (Williams) Garrison on July 31, 1939, in Myrtle, Missouri, and departed this life on February 9, 2017, in West Plains, Missouri, at the age of 77 years.

He was united in marriage on May 28, 1960 in Saddle, Arkansas to Jewell Powell.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-six years, Jewell Garrison of the home near Myrtle, Missouri; one daughter, Kimberly O’Neill and husband, Fred of Myrtle, Missouri; two grandchildren, Garrison “Alex” O’Neill and wife, Kylie, of Thayer, Missouri and Jessica O’Neill of Myrtle, Missouri; one great grandchild, Ansley Layke O’Neill of Thayer; one brother, Joe Garrison, and wife, Teresa and one sister, Dorris Summers and husband, James, all of Myrtle, Missouri; one brother-in-law, Arliss Powell and wife, Patricia of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas; four nephews, Dwayne, Mike, Justin and Wade; three nieces, Deanna, Kristin and Aminta; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jess and Alpha Garrison; two infant sisters, Jessilee and Patricia Garrison, and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Arvy and Elva (Hall) Powell.

Richard was a farmer at heart. His first job was working in a sale barn and he later owned and operated a milk route. After college he taught math and science, and served as a counselor and high school principal at Couch School. His next job was teaching in the West Plains School System before becoming high school principal at Thayer.

He was later employed by the Bank of Thayer where he served as vice president and loan officer. He also was co-owner of Steed Trucking with Butch Steed. Along with Fred O’Neill and Tim Garrison, Richard was instrumental in the beginning of Myrtle Fertilizer.
Even though he was involved in many jobs in his life, he always “ran a few old cows”, which was his true life passion. Throughout his lifetime of many pursuits, he made many friends that lasted a lifetime.

Richard was baptized and became a Christian in January 1961 in Jonesboro, Arkansas. He often reminded his family and friends that our “main purpose in life is getting ready for our home in heaven”. Richard was loved by his family and friends and will truly be missed by all.

Funeral services for Richard Garrison, age 77, of Myrtle Missouri, will be held Saturday, February 11, 2017 at 2:00 PM at the Thayer Church of Christ with Arvil Hill Officiating.

Burial will be in the Thayer Cemetery with services under the direction of Carter Funeral Home in Thayer.

George F. Haggins, age 73, of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas died Saturday, February 4, 2017 at 9:50 AM in Ozarks Medical Center in West Plains, Missouri.

Glenden “Glen” Doris Crass, was born the son of Robert Crass and Claudia (Hartwell) Crass on March 10, 1935, in Myrtle, Missouri, and departed this life on January 23, 2017, in West Plains, Missouri, at the age of 81 years.

He was united in marriage on December 7, 1982, in Thayer, Missouri, to Holly Simmons.

He is survived by his wife, Holly Crass of the home in Mammoth Spring, Arkansas; one son, Dwight Crass of Koshkonong, Missouri; three daughters, Rebecca Jewell and husband, Russel, Heather Risner and husband, Clay, and Robin Holder and husband, Robert, all of Thayer, Missouri; eleven grandchildren, Ethan Vanderburg, Jacob Crass, Hunter Crass, Nick Jewell and wife, Shelby, Sarah Jewell, Colby Risner, Peyton Risner, Hayden Crass, Kale Davis, and Laura Beth Holder; three great grandchildren; one brother, Harold Sam Crass; one sister, Sue Crass; numerous nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Claudia Crass; two daughters, Janella Crass and Jeana Vanderburg; four brothers, Blanton Crass, Gerald Crass, Charles Crass, and Harry Crass; one infant brother; and two sisters, Mary Freeman and Lenore Stevens.

Glen was a graduate of Couch High School, where he received honors as an outstanding baseball athlete. After high school, he proudly served his country in the United States Army. While serving, he played basketball for the Army athletic program.

He began his working career as a carpenter. Later, he was employed as a brakeman for the railroad, retiring after many years of service.

Glen enjoyed hunting, fishing, and was a great story teller. Most of all, he was a wonderful Papa. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren, who were the love of his life.

He will truly be missed by his family and friends.

Mary Aleeta Todd was born the daughter of Harley Manor and Eliza (Mask) Manor on October 20, 1924, in Camp, Arkansas, and departed this life on January 14, 2017, at Shady Oaks Healthcare in Thayer, Missouri, at the age of 92 years.

She was united in marriage on December 23, 1939, at Fryatt, Arkansas, to Roy Todd.

She is survived by two sons, Harold Todd and wife, Neoma of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas and Jerry Todd of Thayer, Missouri; one daughter, Mary Hollis and husband, Larry of Thayer, Missouri; four grandchildren, Kim Carr and husband, Darren of Thayer, Missouri, Carolyn Edwards and husband, Sam of Thayer, Missouri, Jamie Todd of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas, and Karen Rikard and husband, Byron of Thayer, Missouri; eleven great grandchildren, Alisha Reed, Samantha Edwards, Kayla Edwards, Crystal Edwards, Jerrod Carr, Hannah Carr, Cole Rikard, Drew Henson, Dawson Rikard, Keegan Todd, and Addison Todd; one brother, Cleo Langle of Texas; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harley and Eliza Manor; her husband, Roy Todd; two daughters-in-law, Carolyn Todd and Janice Todd; two brothers and their wives, Clarence and Dene Langle and Theodore and JoRita Langle; two sisters and their husbands, Nancy and Donald Reagan and Illa and Noel Pingleton; and a host of brothers and sisters-in-law, Elmer and Fern Todd, Ward and Lottie Willison, Jack and Lorene Privett, Frank and Gladys Willison, and Aubrey and Iva Layne.

Aleeta worked for Shady Oaks Healthcare in Thayer, retiring in 1991 after more than twenty years of service.

She was an excellent cook and loved to prepare meals for her family and friends.

Aleeta enjoyed gardening and yard work, but most of all, she treasured the many years she spent caring for her grandkids.

She was baptized and was of the Free Will Baptist faith.

She will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed by all.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 19, 2017, at 2:00 PM at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer, with David Langston officiating.

Pamela L. Johnson was born the daughter of Eldridge T. Sherrell and Faye (Ballard) Sherrell on December 2, 1953, in Batesville, Arkansas, and departed this life on January 14, 2017, at her home in Mammoth Spring, Arkansas, at the age of 63 years.

She was united in marriage on September 18, 1981, in Mammoth Spring, Arkansas, to Joe Johnson.

She is survived by her husband, Joe Johnson, of the home in Mammoth Spring, Arkansas; two sons, Tim Johnson and wife, Donna of Springfield, Arkansas and Tony Johnson and wife, Tina of Center Ridge, Arkansas; one daughter, Natasha Clark of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas; mother-in-law, June Johnson of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas; eight grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; one brother, Donnie Sherrell of Joplin, Missouri; one sister, Billie Prewett of West Plains, Missouri; four sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; very special friends, Alan and Sarah Sherrell of Oxford, Arkansas; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Eldridge and Faye Sherrell; her father-in-law, Harold Johnson; and two sisters, Joyce Bryant and Lena Dockins.

Pamela worked in the health care field all of her working years. She was the first company nurse for Southwest Truck Body in West Plains, Missouri and worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse for several years at area health facilities, including Fulton County Hospital, Baxter Regional Medical Center, Ozarks Medical Center and White River Medical Center.

She was instrumental in starting the gift shop in Fulton County Hospital and was also Director of Volunteers.

Pamela was a very caring and compassionate person, always putting the needs of others before herself.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mammoth Spring, Arkansas.

She will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife and mother, cherished grandmother, dear sister, and friend to all who knew her.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 18, 2017, at 2:00 PM at the First Baptist Church in Mammoth Spring, with Brother Charles Morgan officiating.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, January 17th from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer.

Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery, with services under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc. in Thayer.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made in her memory to the Fulton County Hospital Gift Shop in Salem, Arkansas.

Derek Scott Bailey came into this world earlier than expected on December 3, 1984 at 6:04 am. He was one half of a whole. He weighed a mere 3 pounds, 2 ounces. He met the challenge of being born early and small, the way he met every challenge in his life … with strength and faith in the Lord.
Derek spent his childhood outside. Derek loved being in nature and that is what made him the happiest. He would fish and draw. He would turn over rocks looking for bugs and snakes, most of the time successfully. He loved all animals, from baby birds to snakes and everything in between. He was constantly bringing home rescued animals to care for. Derek was kind, and loving to everyone he met. His best friends in this life were mainly cousins, as family was very important to Derek. Derek took each tragic death in his family hard, and grieved greatly.
Derek met each day with beautiful, big, brown eyes, softly spoken words, and a million watt smile. He would light up every life he touched. Derek left this world the way he came into it, earlier than expected on January 11, 2017. Derek was a beloved grandson, son, father, nephew and uncle. His grandparents were the late Charles C. and Mary Bailey. He was the nephew of James and Terry Bailey and the son of Sherri L. Bailey (Neal), all of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas. Derek was the father to a little piece of Heaven named, Michael Scott Bailey, who was born on April 26, 2004 at 1:14 pm.

Ruby Jean Smoot was born the daughter of Billy Jo Burch and Audra Mae (Langel) Burch on July 2, 1942 in Salem, Arkansas and died on January 6, 2017 in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of 74 years.
She was married on August 21, 1958 to Bob Smoot, who preceded her in death on October 12, 2001.
She is survived by one daughter, Bobbie Griffith of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas; one son, Ron Smoot and wife, Glenda of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas; three grandchildren, Matthew Griffith, Samantha Holdren and Michael Lynch; three great grandchildren; three brothers, David Burch of Salem, Arkansas, Darril Burch of Salem, Arkansas, and Jim Burch of Mississippi; two sisters, Hazel Shelley of Agnos, Arkansas and Imagene Johnson of Ava, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; other relatives; and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Billy Jo and Audra Mae Burch; her husband, Bob Smoot; one grandson, Philip Waterhouse; and one brother Billy Jo Burch.
Ruby was a school secretary at Mammoth Spring schools for many years. She was also a devoted mother and grandmother.
Ruby enjoyed painting and was especially known for her landscapes. She also liked spending time reading.
She was a Christian and a member of the First Christian Church in Mammoth Spring, Arkansas.
She was truly a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend and will be missed by all that knew her.

Anthony David Smith was born the son of Charles David Smith and Claudia Armstrong Smith on February 14, 1972, in Salem, Arkansas and departed this life on January 4, 2017 in Springfield, Missouri at the age of 44 years.

He survived by his mother, Claudia Freeman of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas; one sister, Konnie Haney and her husband, Kenny of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas; one niece, Kaitlyn Haney of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas; his maternal grandparents, Silas and Fern Armstrong of Agnos, Arkansas; two aunts; two uncles; several cousins and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, David Smith, and his paternal grandparents, Shorty and Jo Smith.

As many will remember, Anthony enjoyed life and had a great passion for cars. He also enjoyed fishing and collecting antiques.

Anthony was a devoted son, loving brother, uncle, grandson and a loyal friend to all. He will truly be missed by all that knew him.

 Lurene Alice Melinda Diles McGhee was born the daughter of William J. Diles and Sarah M. Arnold Diles on June 30, 1919, in Thayer, Missouri, and departed this life on January 4, 2017, in Thayer, Missouri, at the age of 97 years.
She was united in marriage on April 24, 1941, in Salem, Arkansas, to Ralph McGhee, who preceded her in death on January 10, 1991. To this union two daughters were born.
She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Hedden and husband, Marvin of Thayer, Missouri; son-in-law, Joey Pendarvis of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas; five grandchildren, Kevin Hedden and wife, Jamie of Thayer, Kim Johnson and husband, Jerry of O’Fallon, Missouri, Jolie Washam and husband, Brad of Mammoth Spring, Julie Rich and husband, Larry of Bono, Arkansas, and Jody Pendarvis and wife, Andrea of Harrison, Arkansas; ten great granddaughters, Meghan Thompson and husband, Brice, Baylee Hedden, Brynn and Braelyn Washam, Jaden, Halle, and Carley Rich, and Ava, Brooklynn, and Macie Pendarvis; two step great-grandchildren, Justin Johnson, and Jamie Frank and husband, Jacob; two great-great grandchildren, Jack and Kaylynn Frank; three sisters-in-law, Marjorie Diles, Rachel McGhee, and Lena Johnson; many nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William J. and Sarah Diles; her husband, Ralph McGhee; her daughter, Dolores Jan Pendarvis; two brothers, Orville and Dorris Diles; and three sisters, Gladys Cotham, Vida Hall, and Bonnie Agee.
Her family has been her life, especially her grandchildren and ten great-granddaughters. She wore her necklace with ten little girls on it and proudly showed it to everyone.
Lurene was baptized as a young girl at Jeff Church of Christ and worked hard her whole life to be a Christian worker in the Church. You may have enjoyed her fried apple pies, if you were sick or at fellowship dinners. Lanis was lucky to get the last ones she made. She said, “I’m too old to make anymore.”

Funeral services for Lurene McGhee, age 97, of Thayer, Missouri, will be held Friday, January 6, 2017, at 11:00 AM at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer with Barry O’Dell officiating.

The family will receive friends on Friday from 10:00 AM until time of the service at the Carter Funeral Home.

Burial will be in the Thayer Cemetery, with services under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc. in Thayer.
