Bertha Leona England, daughter of the late Bedford F. Mitchell and Martha M. Brewer Mitchell, was born October 27, 1921 in Myrtle, Missouri and died March 24, 2017 in Durham, North Carolina at the age of 95 years.

She was united in marriage at Billmore, Missouri on April 27, 1947 to Gordon Manuel England. They enjoyed more than 65 happy years together.

She is survived by her daughter, Diane England Olson and husband, Steven of Durham, North Carolina; one grandson, Thomas Olson of Durham, North Carolina; one sister, Gertrude Sorrell of Jonesboro, Arkansas and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon England; her parents, Bedford and Martha Mitchell; two brothers, Everett and Bedford Mitchell; and six sisters, Willie Cypret, Pearl Cantrell, Annie Newman, Vada Cantrell, Jessie Dunkin and Lorine Bennett.

Bertha was a substitute teacher at Couch School for many years and thoroughly enjoyed it. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Myrtle Missouri and taught Sunday School as well as serving in other ways in the church. She was a wonderful cook and will be remembered by the older members of the church for her cinnamon rolls and doughnuts.

She was a loving mother and grandmother and a strong Christian who was ready to go home to be with her Lord.

A Celebration of Life Service for Bertha England, age 95, of Durham, North Carolina, formerly of Myrtle, Missouri, will be held Saturday, June 10, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Myrtle First Baptist Church in Myrtle, Missouri with Brother George Box officiating.
