Andrew J. Van Camp II, of Sullivan, Missouri, passed away at his home on Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at the age of 68 years.

Andy, as he was known by his family and friends, was born on August 13, 1943 at Corpus Christi, Texas to Andrew J. and Nadine Avaughn (Zimmerling) Van Camp, Sr. He was raised in Kansas City, Missouri and in the early 1970’s moved to Sullivan. Andy was employed with the Missouri Department of Conservation in Sullivan from 1971 to 1979 and later worked for a time in St. Louis in the electronic industry. He later became an instructor at East Central College in Union, Missouri teaching electronics and CIM and CAM applications and operations. While there, he was Interim Dean of Vocational Education for a time. On July 18, 1981 he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Hoyt at Sullivan. Andy was a member of the First Christian Church of Union and was involved in many of the church activities there. He enjoyed working with his hands and loved to read. His other pleasures were traveling, hiking and biking. He was known to have an inquisitive mind and was presently writing a book. Andy was also past District Governor of the Optimist Club. Those who have known him, will miss his pleasant personality and devoted friendship.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth of the family home; two sons, Andrew J. Van Camp III and wife, Connie of Olathe, Kansas and Darrin Van Camp of Kansas City, Missouri; his mother, Nadine Van Camp of Kansas City; two brothers, Steven Van Camp of Independence, Missouri and Kenny Van Camp of Independence; four sisters, Kathy Miller and husband, Danny of Harrisonville, Missouri, Patty Harris of Independence, Missouri, Sherry Dillenger and special friend, Bobby Garcia; Andrea Jo Suos and husband, Tony, all of Independence, Missouri; numerous grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Along with his father, Andy was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Van Camp, and four sisters, Sandra Van Camp, Gayle Van Camp, Judith Wyrick and Debra Van Camp.

Funeral services will be Saturday, August 4, 2012 at 4:00 PM in the Carter Funeral Home Chapel at Thayer. The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home on Saturday from 3:00 PM until service time. Burial will be in the Arytown/Pleasant Hill Cemetery with services under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc. in Thayer. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the First Christian Church, Union, Missouri for Compassion International.
