Edith Mary (Bates) Summers-Robinson was born the daughter of Edward James Jackson Bates and Emma (Bennett) Bates on February 2, 1925, in Oregon County, Missouri, and departed this life October 19, 2015, in Thayer, Missouri, at the age of 90 years.
She was united in marriage June 28, 1941, to Herbert “Jake” Summers and to this union, seven children were born. Jake preceded her in death on December 22, 1985. In 1991, she was united in marriage to Richard Leath Robinson, who preceded her in death on March 12, 2014.
She is survived by six children, James Lee Summers and wife, Dorris of Myrtle, Missouri, Mary Evelyn Todd, Shirley Louise Cockman, Ines Jean Hall and Ella Mae Oakes and husband, Jerry, all of Thayer, Missouri and Mark Anderson Summers and wife, Cindy of Orlando, Oklahoma; ten grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; one sister; other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Emma Bates; her husbands, Jake Summers and Richard Robinson; infant daughter, Emmer Elizabeth Summers; six brothers; and four sisters.
Edith was a homemaker and will be remembered for her delicious homemade hot rolls.
She loved her family, and enjoyed crocheting, sewing, gardening, making rugs and beautiful hand stitched quilts.
Edith was a Christian lady and a member of the Clifton Free Will Baptist Church.
She will truly be missed by her family and friends.
Funeral services will be Thursday, October 22, 2015, at 10:00 AM at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer with Mark Summers officiating.
The family will receive friends at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer on Wednesday evening, October 21st from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.
Burial will be in the Norman Cemetery near Alton, Missouri, with services under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc. in Thayer.
