Eldon Ray Burgess, 81, son of the late Loyd Burgess and Dorothy Bridges Burgess, was born on December 9, 1930 in Pomona, Missouri and departed this life on February 14, 2012 at Timberlake Care Center, Kansas City, Missouri, where he had spent the last four years.
He was united in marriage June 5, 1954 at West Plains, Missouri to Eva Dunkin.
He is survived by his wife, Eva, of Overland Park, Kansas; one brother, Lloyd Burgess of Sacramento, California; five sisters, Jane Stoneman, Raytown, Missouri, Myrna Clark, Overland Park, Kansas, Judy Hanshaw, West Plains, Missouri, Betty Rhodes, Springfield, Missouri, and Mary Arnote, Raymore, Missouri; several nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and step-mother.
He was of the Baptist faith and was devoted to his wife of fifty-seven years. He was retired from library services, both with the public libraries and also the school systems.
He loved his family and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Services for Mr. Burgess will be held Thursday, February 16, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Carter Funeral Home Chapel, West Plains, Missouri. Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 p.m. before the service. Burial will be at Howell Memorial Park Cemetery, under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc., West Plains.
