Tommy Eugene Loyd was born the son of James Alfred Loyd and Dorothy Josephine (Hibbs) Loyd on November 5, 1943, in Clinton, Missouri, and departed this life on February 4, 2016, in West Plains, Missouri, at the age of 72 years.
He was united in marriage on February 10, 1968 in Clinton, Missouri, to Sharon Sisco.
He is survived by his wife of forty-seven years, Sharon Loyd of the home in Thayer; one daughter, Dorothy Suhr and husband, Scott of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; two sons, Tommy Eugene Loyd, Jr. and James Loyd and wife, Wendy, both of Thayer; four grandchildren, Robbie and Ashley Suhr, both of Lee’s Summit, and Donnie and Zackery Ragan, both of West Plains; one sister, Judy Fellhauer and husband, Franklin of Clinton; one step-brother, Jerry Loyd and wife, Lou of Lee’s Summit; nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Dorothy Loyd; one infant brother, Jimmy Ed Loyd; and one granddaughter, Krystal.
Tommy graduated from Clinton High School with the class of 1961. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, and until his retirement, worked as an over-the-road truck driver for many years.
He enjoyed sports, reading and do-it-yourself projects, and was a dedicated fan of the Kansas City Royals and the Kansas City Chiefs.
Tommy was a member of Pleasant Hill Free Will Baptist Church, near Thayer. He enjoyed helping others and will be remembered as a good neighbor and a loyal friend to all. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He will truly be missed by his family and the community in which he lived.
Funeral services for Mr. Loyd will be held Sunday, February 7, 2016, at 2:00 PM at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer, Missouri, with Brother Johnny Floyd Holesapple officiating.
The family will receive friends at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer on Sunday, February 7th from 1:00 PM until service time.
Burial will be in Arytown Cemetery near Thayer, Missouri.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to The Gideons International or The Salvation Army and may be left at the Funeral Home in Thayer.
