Charles Lester Wren, Jr., 79 of Springfield, Missouri came into this world on March 19, 1945, in Mexia, Texas, the son of Charles Lester Wren, Sr. and Zelda Juanita Wren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, and one great-granddaughter.
He is survived by 4 children including Kelly A. Rice, Charles H. Wren, and wife Erin Wren, Christopher J. Wren, and wife Marisa Wren, and Terri Haskins and husband Zak Haskins, 11 grandchildren and spouses, 9 great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends who will miss him greatly.
Charles “Papa” Wren spent his life selflessly serving his family without question or hesitation. His main vocation in life was an over the road truck driver, but his family was his life-long career. He spent his spare time boating, fishing, and driving until the end. “Papa” was compassionate, rarely met a stranger, and was kind to all. Whether a business person in a suit, or a fisherman in waders, he would talk to anyone – and he left each person with a little more wisdom than they had before. He will be missed, loved, and always remembered.
Graveside services for Charles Lester Wren, Jr. will be held Monday, June 3, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at Howell Memorial Park Cemetery, Howell County, Missouri, with the Reverend David Ball officiating, under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc., West Plains, Missouri.
Military rites will be performed by our West Plains Honor Guard and the Missouri Military Honors Program.

Papa loved all the kids, played with them endlessly and I am a better person for having known him! I was told about my Son in laws’, Christopher name on his wedding day and was told how much Papa bragged about his name and the reason he named Chris!, which of course Papa was so very proud of having given to him! He made sure all the kids and grandchildren went on family trips every year and had the family dinner together every single Christmas! He was the epitome of the word, family! I was so very happy & blessed my daughter, Marisa married into his huge, loving family! Her Father was as well, may he rest in peace. He treated my daughter like one of his own, always calling her, “Little One”. To a man of a life well lived with a twinkle ✨ always in his eye, farewell sweet Prince, until we meet again! Charles Wren was known as “Junior” by his cousins on his Bayless side. He was like a brother to me growing up and I will miss him. He practically lived on Ovaltine chocolate drink and had a wonderful laugh that was contagious! Congratulations on a life well-lived, cousin!

Charles Wren was fondly known as “Junior” by his family on the Bayless side. Junior and his brother, Bob, were like brothers to me while we were growing up. As a child, he practically lived on Ovaltine chocolate drink mix and had a wonderful laugh that was absolutely contagious! Congratulations on a life well-lived, Cousin! I love you.
