Eula Lee (Hicks) Semrau was born the daughter of Robert Hicks and Stella Anne (Taylor) Hicks in Oregon County, Missouri, eight miles East of Thayer, on September 16, 1919. The family moved to the Cedar Grove area in Arkansas when Eula was about three years old. She departed this life August 25, 2012 at Eaglecrest Nursing Home in Ash Flat, Arkansas at the age of 92 years.
She was united in marriage January 22, 1941 at Pocahontas, Arkansas to Walter August Semrau, who preceded her in death December 15, 1994.
She is survived by five children, Edna Liley of Collierville, Tennessee, Frieda Seay and husband, Tim of Paris, Missouri, Linda Cooney of Wirth, Arkansas, Wanda Rhodes of Blue Springs, Missouri and Duane Semrau of Wirth, Arkansas; seven grandchildren, Tim Liley, Cindy James, Kim James, Matt James, Meletha Martinovich, Sharon Coble and Karen Rhodes; six great-grandchildren, Zach Liley, Anna Liley, Jimmy Glover, Madison Marks, Bjorn Price, and Quintin Coble; other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Semrau; her parents, Rob and Stella Hicks; one sister, Ruby Richert; one brother, Lewis Hicks and two sons-in-law, Harlan Liley and Vic Cooney.
Besides being a dedicated homemaker, Eula was an excellent seamstress and a wonderful cook. She will also be remembered as a lady with many talents, such as fixing the lawnmower, putting up hay, laying stone, growing beautiful flowers and a bountiful garden.
Mrs. Semrau was a member of the Church of Christ, a devoted and caring wife, mother and grandmother. She will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Funeral services for Mrs. Semrau will be Saturday, September 1, 2012 at 11:00 AM at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer, Missouri with Lee Moses officiating. Burial will be in the Wirth Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, August 31st, from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.
