Graveside services for Velma Kathleen Freeman, 88, West Plains, Missouri, will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 6, 2015, at Oak Lawn Cemetery with Reverend Greg Thompson officiating, under the direction of Carter Funeral Home,Inc., West Plains.
She was born the daughter of the late Dewey Driskell and Bessie L. Chambers Driskell, on September 20, 1926 in Dora, Missouri and died March 3, 2015 in West Plains, Missouri.
She was united in marriage April 3, 1945 in Dora, Missouri to John Orville Freeman, who preceded her in death September 17, 1991.
She is survived by one daughter, Mary Ann Leroy and husband, Ronnie, Dora, Missouri; two grandchildren, Mark Warren, Dora, Missouri and Vince Warren, New York City, New York; five great grandchildren, Andalyn, Weston, Kendra, Kianna, and John Garrett, and two great great grandchildren, Kiegan and Mylo.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents, and one sister, Thelma Lorene (Goodman) Shipley.
She was a member of the Second Baptist Church in West Plains, Missouri. Velma and her late husband were avid CB operators, with the handles of “Buckeye” and “Lady Buckeye”.
Visitation will be held Thursday, March 5, 2015 from 6 to 7 p.m. at Carter Funeral Home Chapel, West Plains.
Burial will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc., West Plains.
