Jewelene “Jean” (Frey) Grooms, age 98 of Thayer, Missouri, passed away February 6, 2024, at Shady Oaks Healthcare in Thayer, Missouri. Jean was born May 16, 1925, near Alton, Missouri to Leamon C. and Martha (Greer) Frey.
Jean married J.E. Grooms on September 23, 1944, at Rev. Harry Beatty’s home in Jeff Community, Missouri. They had no children, but her sisters and brothers happily shared their children, which she loved and was very grateful for.
Jean liked to go fishing, deer hunt and she always got her deer with the first shot. She enjoyed sewing and making quilts. She was an avid reader and loved poetry. In her younger years Jean loved traveling and she visited all the western states, Mexico and Canada.
Jean loved to play the guitar, mandolin and singing. When she was young, her and her sister sang in churches all over Tulsa, Oklahoma and sang on the radio stations in Tulsa. They called themselves “The Missouri Songbirds.”
Jean attended Couch Pentecostal Church for several years, but in later years she attended Stateline Pentecostal Church as long as she was able to go.
Jean is survived by one sister Mary Jane Honeycutt, of Thayer, Missouri; one sister-in-law Linda Frey of St. Charles, Missouri; and several nieces and nephews.
Jean is preceded in death by her parents; one sister Christine Pauli; two brothers Rev. Bob Frey and Bill Frey; one sister-in-law Ann Frey; two brothers-in-law John Lee Pauli and Eddie Honeycutt; and one nephew Rev. Dean Frey.
Graveside service will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at New Salem Cemetery in Couch, Missouri.
Interment will be on Saturday, February 10, 2024, in New Salem Cemetery, Couch Missouri with services under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc. in Thayer, Missouri.
