James Clyde “Jim” Grooms was born October 29, 1941 and passed away January 13, 2021 at the age of 79 years 2 months and 16 days. Jim was the son of William Clyde and Bertha (Sandridge) Grooms. On November 21, 1964, Jim married the love of his life, Doris “Sue” Coats.

Jim is survived his children, son, James Clinton (Terri) Grooms, Marshfield, MO and daughter, Elizabeth “Colleen” (Melvin) Snethern, Couch, MO; grandchildren Elizabeth (Floyd) Baxter, Campbell, MO, William (Ruby) Snethern, Thayer, MO, Emily Jo Grooms, Marshfield, MO; and 4 great-grandchildren, Wyatt Baxter, Zilynn Snethern, Kaleigh Baxter, and Zinlee Snethern. He is also survived by are his sisters, Kay (J.L.) Case, Foristell, MO, and Ella (Frank) Goans, Springfield, MO; brothers-in-law Warren (Haseltine) Coats, Mammoth Spring, AR and Roy (Roberta) Coats, House Springs, MO; sisters-in-law; Janie Flynn, Mammoth Spring, AR and Nora Coats, Thayer, MO; many nieces, nephews, cousins; and a multitude of friends.

Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Sue Grooms; by his parents, Clyde and Bertha Grooms, brother-in-law, Jack Flynn, sister-in-law Lois Huddleston, niece, Julie Noakes and nephews, Steve Case and Tim King.

Jim was a 1959 graduate of Couch High School. After graduating Jim moved to St. Louis to find work, later returning to the Couch area.  Jim served in the U.S. Army from 1965 to 1970.

Jim and his father, Clyde worked as carpenters until Clyde retired.  Jim then opened his shop doing farm machinery maintenance and welding for many years.  Some of the stories he shared many times were fixing the “may pop” flat bicycle tires because they may pop the next time they were aired up for the kids down the road. In later years he shared about the times he helped some of the young men in the community by coaching them as they worked to repair their own items at his shop.

Funeral services for James Clyde Grooms, age 79, of Couch, Missouri will be held at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer, Missouri at 2:00 p.m. on  Saturday, January 16, 2021 with Melvin Snethern officiating.

The family will receive friends on Friday, January 15, 2021 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Carter Funeral Home in Thayer, Missouri,

Burial will be on Saturday, January 16, 2021 in Thayer Cemetery in Thayer, Missouri with services under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc. in Thayer, Missouri.

    Sorry to hear of James passing, I am out of town driving a mail truck on Saturday will be why I will miss seeing the family, and funeral.

    We are sorry to hear of the passing of James. He was a classmate of the 1959 graduating class of Couch High School. Jim always was faithful to attend our class reunions and always enjoyed seeing everyone.
