Bertie M. Biffle was born the daughter of Jack Fletcher and Maude (Risner) Fletcher on April 1, 1918, in Evening Shade, Arkansas, and departed this life October 28, 2015, in West Plains, Missouri, at the age of 97 years.
She was united in marriage on November 27, 1936, at Thayer, Missouri, to Wallace Biffle, who preceded her in death on August 24, 1992.
She is survived by one son, Michael Biffle and wife, Gina of Alton, Missouri; four grandchildren, Lacey Sorrell and husband, Darrin of Thayer, Missouri, Eric Biffle of Austin, Texas, Cicily Jenkins and husband, Ben of Thayer and Bradley Orahood and wife, Kayla of Thayer; six great grandchildren, Angela, Mason, Rylee Jo and Cade Sorrell, Ashton Jenkins, and Jake Lampley; one sister, Mattie Bargerhuff; other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Maude Fletcher; her husband, Wallace Biffle; adopted daughter, Shirley Hardwick; brother, Wallace Fletcher, and sister, Grace Brady.
Early in her married life, Bertie felt her mission in life was to be a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She fulfilled that mission with unconditional love and kindness for her family and fifty-seven foster children, as she cared for their needs with a loving heart and giving spirit.
Bertie was a quiet and gentle woman who led a simple, hardworking life. Her heart and home were always open to anyone in need or less fortunate than herself, as she gave genuine love and joy to others.
She was an avid reader and an excellent cook. Bertie was an entertaining storyteller and one of the favorites told to her grandchildren, was her life during the Great Depression. Bertie was a talented seamstress and enjoyed needlework, making many beautiful quilts and embroidery items for family and friends.
She was a Christian lady, a prayer warrior, and a faithful member of the Midway Pentecostal Church.
She will be remembered as a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister. Her life touched many and will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Graveside services will be Sunday, November 1, 2015, at 2:00 PM in the New Salem Cemetery at Couch, Missouri, with Brother Anthony Woods officiating.
Burial will be in the New Salem Cemetery with services under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc. in Thayer.
