Deborah Beaver Slack was born July 8, 1954 at Walker Air Force Base, Roswell, NM and returned to her Creator August 24, 2013. She was united in marriage to Michael Don Slack and resided on a farm near Thayer, MO which she loved.

She is survived by her husband Michael, daughter Carmen Deborah Smith, son-in-law Keith Rodell Smith, granddaughter Cheyenne Dakota Smith and grandson Laramie Laredo Smith of Gentry, AR; daughter Maria Palmer and son-in-law in spirit Kyle Love of Steamboat Springs, CO; her parents Beal and Lynn Beaver of Prairie Grove, AR; brothers Steve, Mark and David Beaver, sisters-in-law Jennifer and Karen Beaver, sister Sharon and brother-in-law Robert Hensley all of northwest AR, sister Pam and brother-in-law Naushad Aurangzeb of Alta Loma, CA; mother-in-law Mary Slack, sister-in-law Jill Slack and nephew Matthew Slack of Springfield.

Deb was a retired elementary school teacher and lifelong gardener. She was the founder of Ozarks Self Reliant Living University and taught classes in gardening and heritage studies each month in three cities. She was an organizer of the Go Green Festival in Thayer, a member of the Missouri Organic Association and a speaker at their conference every year, and a supporter of the Ozarks Property Rights Coalition. She loved her family, her country, her farm and the chance to teach others organic gardening, canning and self-reliance. She especially loved her daughters and her beautiful grandchildren. She had many friends in the Ozarks that she loved and thousands of people online in the Organic Homestead Gardening Group and others whose lives were made richer by knowledge she shared. She loved native American culture and was adopted into, and appointed Medicine Woman by the Overhill Cherokee Nation. She was a member of the Republican Central Committee of Oregon County and many politicians will testify that she often warned them to stay honest and respect the people they served. She was a frequent guest on local radio, especially America’s Voice Now, and was offered the chance to host a weekly self-reliance radio program two days before her passing. She worked long hours in her garden, loving every minute, and credited her mother with her love of gardening. She and Mike loved working together and had talked the day before she passed about how happy they were and how they planned to grow old together on their farm.

A celebration of Deb’s life will be held Saturday, August 31, 2013 at 1:00 PM at Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer. Afterwards, as Deb wished, her friends and family will meet at the Thayer Senior Center to share memories over covered dishes in the old time country way. All are welcome.

Susan Ann Wagner, age 77, of Thayer, Missouri, died at 3:40 AM on Wednesday, August 21, 2013, at her home in Thayer.

David “Mark” Newman, age 58, of Myrtle, Missouri, died at 2:30 AM on Wednesday, August 21, 2013, at his home in Myrtle.   Final Disposition is under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc. in Thayer.

Graveside services for Mr. Newman will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, August 25, 2013, at Oak Lawn Cemetery, under the direction of Robertson-Drago Funeral Home in West Plains.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 until 2:30 p.m., Sunday at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home.   Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, and may be left at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home.

Louis Junior Young was born the son of Louis W. Young and Elizabeth Bessie (Taylor) Young on February 5, 1940 in Ravenden, Arkansas, and departed this life August 17, 2013 at his home in Mammoth Spring, Arkansas, at the age of 73 years.

He was united in marriage on June 4, 1960 in Mammoth Spring, Arkansas, to Larein England.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-three years, Larein Young of the home in Mammoth Spring, Arkansas; three children, Harry Young and wife, Shelia, Marty Young and wife, Janet, and Lanae Gaines and husband, Paul, all of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas; eight grandchildren, Clint Young, Luke Young, Amy Turnbough and husband, Nick, Bridget Myers and husband, Brian, Brittany Young, Chris Young, Lashae Armstead and husband, George, and Colby Young; four great-grandchildren, Callie Jo and Cody Young and Tyler and Cole Myers; four step-grandchildren, Jesse, Ethan, Dustin and Jacob Gaines; two step- great grandchildren, Brady & Emma Gaines; his mother-in-law, Alberta England of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas; two brothers, Jerry Young and wife, Antonia and Ricky Young and wife, Cindy; five sisters, Annie Young, Minnie Hightower, Mary Ripley and husband, Ed, Thelma Thomas and husband, Floyd and Violet Young; two sisters-in-law, Lajune Romans and Laverne Risner and husband, James; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law, Harry England; two nephews, Bradley Risner and Anthony Brannon; and two brothers-in-law, Glen Romans and Ray Hightower.

Junior owned and operated Young’s Drywall and enjoyed working with his sons, Harry and Marty, while teaching them the trade.

He was well respected in his community and will be remembered for his pleasant personality and willingness to help others. Junior enjoyed working on his farm, visiting with his neighbors, and loved life, living it to the fullest.

He was a Christian man and a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Mammoth Spring, Arkansas. His deep devotion to his family and the cherished moments they shared will never be forgotten.

Funeral Services will be Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at 2:00 PM at the First Baptist Church in Mammoth Spring, Arkansas with Brother Jimmy Lemonds and Brother Charles Morgan officiating.

The family will receive friends at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer on Tuesday, August 20^th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.

Burial will be in the England Cemetery near Mammoth Spring, with services under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc. in Thayer.

Ronald Dewayne Bowers was born the son of Marvin John Bowers and Beulah Irene (Brazel) Bowers on August 23, 1959 in Peoria, Illinois and departed this life August 11, 2013 at his home in Thayer, Missouri, at the age of 53 years.

He is survived by one son, Ronald Dewayne Bowers, Jr. of Thayer, Missouri; one daughter, Crystal Ann Poulette of Thayer, Missouri; one step-daughter, Stacy Ann Felton and husband, Eddie of Ash Flat, Arkansas; five grandchildren, Dakota Poulette, Dillon Poulette, Dalton Poulette, Ronald Dewayne Bowers III, and Madison Nicole Bowers; one sister, Debra Bumbalough and husband, Dennis of Pekin, Illinois, and Darrel Bowers of Moberly, Missouri; one son-in-law, Bevan Poulette; several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Beulah Bowers; one grandson, Devon Poulette; three brothers, Gary Gene Bowers, David Lynn Bowers, and Larry DeanBowers.

Ronnie was a carpenter and worked several years in home construction and remodeling.

He was a generous man of faith who would offer a helping hand when it was needed, often times opening his own home to someone in need of a place to stay. He enjoyed the company of his family and friends but, especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.

He will be remembered as a loving father, brother, and Pa Pa, and will truly be missed by his family and many friends.

Funeral Services for Mr. Bowers will be Thursday, August 15, 2013 at 2:00 PM at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer, Missouri with Brother Wayne Hurst officiating.

The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home in Thayer on Thursday from 12:00 noon until service time.

Burial will be in the Walker Cemetery near Thayer, Missouri.

Zachary Martin Miller was born the son of Phillip C. Miller and Sharon Ellen (Goetting) Miller on October 19, 1984, in Little Rock, Arkansas, and departed this life August 10, 2013, near Nashville, Tennessee at the age of 28 years.

He is survived by his parents, Phil Miller of Van Buren, Arkansas and Sharon Miller of Gassville, Arkansas; one sister, Jo Ellen Miller of Russellville, Arkansas; maternal grandmother, Hasseltine Goetting Coats and her husband, Warren of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas; paternal grandparents, Hollis and Jean Miller of Murray, Kentucky; his fiancée, Kylie Austin of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins; and many friends, co-workers, softball and baseball teammates from Arkansas, Tennessee, and across the United States.

He was preceded in death by his beloved maternal grandfather, “Pa” Monty Goetting and uncle, Rick Dills.

Zachary graduated from Mountain Home High School in 2003 with numerous baseball honors including: All State and All Conference his junior and senior years; Arkansas Democrat Gazette All Star Team; Arkansas Coaches All Star Team and state batting average leader in 2003 with .518. He spent his summers playing Mountain Home Youth Baseball, Babe Ruth, Southern Tag and Lockeroom, and for wooden bat leagues on the East Coast.

Zachary played Division I baseball for Lipscomb University and the University of Arkansas. He was named to the Atlantic Sun All-Conference Team in 2006 and to the SEC Academic All Conference Team in 2007. Zachary was a member of the SEC West Championship Team in 2007.

He received his undergraduate degree from Trevecca University in Nashville and his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Tennessee State University. He worked as a physical therapist in skilled nursing facilities and in home health.

Growing up, Zachary attended College and North Church of Christ where he was baptized into Jesus Christ and was a member of the youth group. He continued his spiritual journey through his church family in Nashville.

Zachary was known for his quirky sense of humor and his ability to light up a room. He lived his life to the fullest and filled his spare time playing softball, playing lead guitar, helping others, and spending time with those he loved. He will truly be missed by all.

Funeral Services will be Friday, August 16, 2013 at 11:00 AM at the College & North Church of Christ in Mountain Home, Arkansas with Brother Bill Dillon officiating. Graveside Services will follow at 3:30 PM at the Riverside Cemetery in Mammoth Spring, Arkansas with services under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc. of Thayer, Missouri.

Jean Taylor was born the daughter of Zachary Thomas Langston and Effie Mae (Harper) Langston on December 14, 1930 in Couch, Missouri and departed this life August 7, 2013 in Jonesboro, Arkansas at the age of 82 years.

She was united in marriage December 4, 1948 at Wirth, Arkansas to Gordon Eugene Taylor, who preceded her in death on December 18, 2010.

She is survived by one daughter, Bonita Busch and husband, Don of Couch, Missouri; two sons, Terry Taylor and wife, Peggy of Couch, Missouri, and David Taylor and wife, Nancy of Myrtle, Missouri; ten grandchildren, Brenda Taylor, Tracee Baldwin, Libby Frankenberger, Marcia Kerley, Wesley Taylor, Megan Taylor, Zachary Taylor, Angela Meredith, Belinda Privett and Rachel McIntosh; fourteen great grandchildren; one brother, Robert Langston of Couch, Missouri; two sisters, Olive DeLadurantaye and Hazel Langston, both of Hampton, Virginia; two sisters-in-law, Joyce Taylor and Jean Langston; best friend, Susie Roberts; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Beverly Taylor; one great grandchild, Aiden McIntosh; one sister, Gerry Lassiter; one brother, Edsel Langston; two infant brothers, Earl and Harvell Langston; and special friend, Lucille Cypret.

Jean enjoyed growing flowers, her grandchildren, cooking for her family, and was a St. Louis Cardinal and Arkansas Razorback fan. She was a faithful member of the Centerpoint Church of God of Prophecy, where she loved to worship, and be with her church family. For many years, she loved singing with the Harmonettes Gospel ensemble.

Jean was a quiet Christian lady with a sweet gentle spirit. The twinkle in her eyes and cheerful smile reflected the love she had for her family, friends, and God.

She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, and will truly be missed by her family, friends, church family and the community in which she lived.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Taylor will be at 2:00 PM, Saturday, August 10, 2013 at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer, Missouri with Brother Jake Lawrence officiating.

The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home on Saturday from 12:00 noon until the time of the service.

Burial will be in the Myrtle Cemetery in Myrtle, Missouri.
