Memorial Services for Joeanne I. Plested, age 83, of Thayer, Missouri will be held Saturday, January 13, 2018 at 2:00 PM at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Mammoth Spring, Arkansas with Pastor William Neptune and Pastor Abraham Velaquez officiating.

Betty Lou (Smith) Strain Crase was born to W.A. “Bill” and Grace Smith of Couch, Missouri on March 27, 1929. Betty grew up lovingly surrounded by her parents and five sisters: Pauline (Bolton), JoAnn (Brewer), Nan (Wheeler), Polly (Koetting), and Ethel (Goodrich) and a brother with Down Syndrome, John Bill, whom she loved unconditionally. Brother, Carlee, died in infancy. Betty was the last surviving member of this family.

Betty was skipped two grades in elementary school, and graduated from Couch High School at age 15. She moved to St. Louis and lived with her sister, Pauline, and brother-in-law, while she worked in an ammunition plant, as many did during the war.

Home from the Navy after the war ended, Waymon Strain met Betty and on March 9, 1946, they married. In December, 1947, they were blessed with a baby girl, Brenda. Soon after Brenda’s birth, they moved back “home” to Couch. In September, 1955, they were blessed with another baby girl, Beverly. Sadly, Waymon died suddenly of a heart attack on November 25, 1964.

Years passed and Betty found another special love with Calvin Crase, marrying on October 26, 1990. She is survived by Calvin, Brenda, Beverly and husband, Rick; two step-sons, Ron Crase, Jeff Crase (Cindy) and step-daughter, Kim Lewellin; three grandchildren, Hollee Ellsworth Ellis (Jerry), Heidee Ellsworth White (Richie) and Cameron Thomas; three step-grandchildren, Allison Crase, Goldie Hicks (Allen), and Robin Cain (Corey). Step-grandson, Larry, preceded her in death. She is also survived by five great grandchildren, ten step-great grandchildren, one step-great great grandchild, and many who loved her as aunt, friend, or neighbor. She will be deeply missed by all including her beloved dog, Pepper.

Betty loved her family and her God. She acknowledged God’s presence throughout each day. She prayed for family, friends – even people she didn’t know. She was also quick to praise God and thank him for his grace. Betty’s prayer life and Bible reading were inspiration for her beautifully written thoughts and prayers.

Betty’s Celebration of Life Service will be at 1:00 PM on Saturday, January 13, 2018, at Carter Funeral Home in Thayer, with visitation to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the New Salem Cemetery Association are requested . Donations may be left at the funeral home.

Memorial services for Grace Ann Ragsdale, age 77, of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas will be held Saturday, January 6, 2018, at 2:00 PM at the Mammoth Spring Church of Christ with Jeff Lancaster officiating.

William “Bud” Adams was born the son of Chester Adams and Marvel Range Adams on January 9, 1944, in Mammoth Spring, Arkansas, and departed this life December 31, 2017, in Jonesboro, Arkansas, at the age of 73 years.

He was united in marriage on February 15, 1964, in Thayer, Missouri, to Phyllis Ann Rhoades.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-three years, Phyllis Adams of the home in Thayer, Missouri; two children, Rhnea Adams and fiancé, Jason Oakes of Hardy, Arkansas and Matthew Adams and wife, Mandy of Viola, Arkansas; two precious granddaughters, Lauren Godwin and husband, Corey of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas and Maylee Adams of Viola, Arkansas; two special great grandsons, Landen and Chase Godwin of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas; his father-in-law, Hosea Rhoades of Thayer, Missouri; brother-in-law, Wayne Rhoades of Nixa, Missouri; sister-in-law, Janet Bowers and husband, Don of Thayer, Missouri; a special cousin, Terry Range of Thayer, Missouri; other relatives; and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Marvel Adams and his mother-in-law, Ann Rhoades.

Bud was a graduate of Thayer High School, graduating with the Class of 1962.

He and Phyllis owned and operated Adams Western Store for over fifty years.

Bud was a cattle farmer and one of the last true cowboys. He was an active member of the Thayer and Mammoth Spring Saddle Club for many years and was currently serving on the Board of Directors for the Missouri State Wagon Train.

Most of all, Bud enjoyed driving his team of mules and his wagon on the Gee and Haw Horse and Wagon Ride and also, the Missouri State Wagon Train and Trail Ride with his friends.

Bud was a Christian man and a member of the Thayer First Baptist Church.

He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. He will be greatly missed, but we have the peace of God knowing that he is with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at 2:00 PM at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer.

The family will receive friends at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, January 3rd from 12:00 Noon until service time at 2:00.

Burial will be in the Thayer Cemetery with services under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc. in Thayer.

Johnny Ray Dowdy was born the son of Otto Dowdy and Lourana Bell Dowdy on January 29, 1941, in Mammoth Spring, Arkansas, and departed this life December 30, 2017, at his home in Koshkonong, Missouri, at the age of 76 years.

He was united in marriage on November 15, 1974, at West Plains, Missouri, to Linda Frost.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Dowdy of Koshkonong, Missouri; three children, George Dowdy of Farmington, New Mexico, Mary Foret of West Memphis, Arkansas, and Elizabeth Ambrose and husband, James of Koshkonong, Missouri; two stepsons, Jimmie Davis and Marty Johnson, both of Lexington, Tennessee; four grandchildren, Jennifer Raymond, Nicole Dennis, Mary Beth Elvington, and Nicole Smith; six great grandchildren; nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Lourana Dowdy; one brother, Jesse Dowdy; three sisters, Tressie Michaels, Laura Abney, and Ruby Hollis; and one stepson, Ronnie Elvington.

Johnny Ray was a well known and dependable livestock trucker in this area, retiring after many years of hauling livestock.

He enjoyed the outdoors, especially the sports of hunting and fishing.

He was a Christian and a member of the Church of Christ.

He will truly be missed by his family and many friends.

Donald June Hayes was born the son of R.V. Hayes and Lillian Green Hayes on June 27, 1925, in Thayer, Missouri, and departed this life on December 11, 2017, at his home in Thayer, Missouri, at the age of 92 years.

He was united in marriage on December 17, 1949, at West Plains, Missouri, to Maudie E. Highfill, who preceded him in death on March 24, 1954. He was united in marriage on December 25, 1959, at Granite City, Illinois, to Melba Ruth Ferguson.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth Hayes of the home in Thayer, Missouri; one daughter, Doris “Faye” (Hayes) Roppo and husband, Michael of Aurora, Colorado; five grandchildren, Everett Roppo, Carrie Ranisate, Rob Roppo, Ben Roppo, and Joshua Roppo; three great grandchildren, Cassandra, Arianna, and Chandler Ranisate; one sister, Davene Green of West Plains, Missouri; other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Maudie Hayes; his parents, R.V. and Lillian Hayes; and one brother, Rillis Hayes.

Donald was a veteran of the U.S. Army, proudly serving his country during World War II.

Donald was known as a man of many talents. To name a few, he was a musician, making many unique instruments; a rock mason, building many fire places and other rock structures in the area; and most of all, he was gifted in the electronic field, using his wisdom and knowledge to create many astounding items.

Donald was a Bible Scholar, attending Southwestern Bible College in Texas. He was a Christian and a member of the Midway Pentecostal Church, where he faithfully attended as long as health permitted.

He will truly be missed by his family, his church family, and friends.

Funeral services for Donald J. Hayes will be held December 14, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer, Missouri with Brother Anthony Woods, Brother Charles Barnett and Brother Richard Green officiating.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 13, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Carter Funeral Home in Thayer.

Burial will be in Shiloh Grand Gulf Cemetery in Thayer, Missouri with services under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc. in Thayer.

Joseph “Joe” Lawrence Brown was born the son of Lawrence Adam Brown and Joanna Belle Warren Brown on August 27, 1935, in Chanute, Kansas, and departed this life December 5, 2017, at his home in Mammoth Spring, Arkansas, at the age of 82 years.

He was united in marriage on June 4, 1955, in Mammoth Spring, Arkansas, to Ima Jean Dodge, who preceded him in death on August 18, 1969. He was united in marriage on April 23, 1971 at Thayer, Missouri, to Kathryn Pearl Posten, who preceded him in death on July 7, 2016.

He is survived by five children, Terry Brown of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas, Kathryn Bowers and husband, Claude W. “Bill”of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas, Robert Brown and wife, Kristy of Thayer, Missouri, Ed Brown and wife, Rebecca of Thayer, Missouri, and Keith Teichmer and wife, Suzanna of Salem, Arkansas; thirteen grandchildren, Ted Brown and wife, Jackie, Amanda Brown, Rachel Tallant and husband, Aaron, Adam Brown and wife, Sammie, Andrew Brown, Mason Brown, Nathan Bowers, Curtis Bowers, John Brown, Caleb Brown, Seth Brown and wife, Destinee, Autumn Orth and husband, Andrew, and Alex Ulrich; five great grandchildren, Mollie, Maggie, Jace, Braxton, and Gabrielle; other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Joanna Brown; two wives, Ima Jean Brown and Kathryn Brown; and one daughter, Luanne Brown.

Joe was a graduate of Mammoth Spring High School, graduating as Salutatorian of the Class of 1953.

He was a carpenter, building and assisting with the construction of many homes in the area.

Joe was an avid collector of antique tractors, machinery, and also steam engines. He enjoyed the thrill of the hunt and excitement of a rare collector’s find. Joe’s collection was known as one of the largest in the area.

He also enjoyed his team and wagon and especially the trail rides with his friends.

He was a member of the Rustic Wheels Club in Harrison, Arkansas and the Ozark Older Iron Club in Cabool, Missouri.

Joe was a Christian man and one of the first members of the First Church of God in Thayer, where he faithfully attended as long as health permitted.

He was a loving and devoted family man and will truly be missed by his family, church family, and many friends.

Funeral Services for Joe Brown, age 82, of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas, will be held Saturday, December 9, 2017 at 10:00 AM at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer, Missouri.

The family will receive friends at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, December 9th from 9:00 AM until service time at 10:00.

Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery near Thayer, with services under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc. in Thayer.
