Betty Watkins Pitcock

Betty Watkins Pitcock was born Jan. 31, 1953. She entered into eternal rest Aug. 11, 2021. She was born the daughter of Alfred and Gertude Shelton Watkins.

On Mar. 31,1972 she was married at Rover, Missouri to Frank Pitcock. To this union two kids were born, Brent and Travis.

Betty is survived by her husband Frank, West Plains, her mother in law, Jennie Pitcock and 2 sons Brent (Diana) of West Plains, Missouri, Travis (Nellie) of Laquey, Missouri; five grandkids, Zachary Sullivan, Bowling Green, Missouri, Dillion Pitcock and wife Alexis of Republic, Missouri, Haley Pitcock and significant other Jacob Callahan of Pottersville, Missouri, Hayley Bales and significant other Daniel Sapp of Laquey, Missouri, Dustyn Pitcock of West Plains, Missouri and one
great granddaughter Kaitlyn Callahan; one sister Bonnie Myers of Braidwood, Illinois and several neices and nephews.

Betty worked for 45 years at what became known as Invensys. She was always by her husband’s side and never met a stranger.

She is preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Beula Stavros; eight brothers, Seb, Bob, Chet, Elwin, Ted, Don, Duane and Harley Watkins.

Funeral services tor Betty Watkins Pitcock will be held Sunday August 15 at 2:00 p.m., at the Curry Street Church of Christ in West Plains, with Brother Hank Lawrence officiating.

The family will receive their friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m., Saturday, August 14 at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel, West Plains.

Burial will be in the Howell Memorial Park Cemetery, under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc., West Plains.

Richard “Dick” Brown

Carter Funeral Home Thayer

Richard Leon “Dick” Brown was born March 4, 1938 in Thayer, Missouri, the son of Burt Thomas Brown and Annie Warren Brown, and departed this life on August 7, 2021 in Thayer, Missouri at the age of 83.

He was united in marriage on July 1, 1989 to Vestol Wilburn.

Dick is survived by his wife, Vestol Brown of the home in Thayer, Missouri; two daughters, Pamela Hunter and Kim Brown; one step-daughter, Donna Musser; one sister Alpha Lee Erhardt; two grandchildren, Erica Skinner and Jason Redburn; two special grandchildren, Kylie Price and Natalyn Price; two great grandchildren, Wyatt Redburn and Henry Redburn; special friends, Paul and Sue Scott and their family; other relatives; and countless friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Burt and Annie Brown; and one brother, Thomas Max Brown.

Dick graduated from Thayer High School. After graduating he proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy.

He trained as a barber and owned a barber shop in Thayer, Missouri for many years. After retiring, he continued to cut hair for some clients in his home.

Dick was a Christian and of the Church of God faith.

He liked to ride horses and owned some while living in the country outside Thayer. Dick was also very artistic and repaired saddles.

Dick also enjoyed fishing and was an avid coon hunter. He also liked yard sales and flea markets.

He will truly be missed by his family and many friends.

Hubert Whittenburg, Jr.

Hubert Whittenburg Jr., 74, of West Plains, Missouri went to his eternal home to be with Jesus on Friday, August 6, 2021. Junior, son of Hubert and Alice (Tournbaugh) Whittenburg, was born November 19, 1946 in Waynesville, Missouri. He was a graduate of Couch High School. He soon enlisted and was proud to serve in the United States Army. On June 27, 1970 he married Linda Combs at the Cotton Creek Church in Myrtle, Missouri.

Junior is survived by his wife Linda, West Plains; daughter, Missy Kilkenny and husband Mike, West Plains; grandsons Tyler Kilkenny, Springfield; C-Jay Kilkenny, West Plains; and two great grandchildren LillyAnne and Alannah, Koshkonong. Also surviving is his mother Alice Whittenburg, Couch; siblings Shirley Crews, Alton; Sarah Crowder and husband Bob, Alton; Sandra Smith and husband Larry, Alton; Donna Whittenburg, Thayer; Kathryn Hensley and husband Russell, Myrtle; Johnny Whittenburg, Thayer; Billy Whittenburg, Couch; Ann Keel and Vern Ray, Pocahontas, Arkansas; and many other friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his dad, Hubert Whittenburg; brother Kenny Whittenburg; father-in-law and mother-in-law Fred and Velma Combs.

For fifty-three years, Junior loved being behind the wheel of his semi-truck. He traveled millions of miles all across the country, never meeting a stranger. He shared his testimony and passion for Jesus throughout 48 states. He loved his family very much. He was a Christian and a member of Faith Chapel Freewill Baptist Church in West Plains, Missouri.

He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and everyone who knew him.

Carroll Hickman

Carter Funeral Home West Plains

Carroll Hickman, 89, West Plains, Missouri entered into eternal rest on Sunday, July 25, 2021 at Brooke Haven Health Care.
Carroll leaves behind his devoted wife of almost 62 years, Diana, his children. Charlotte and David, his grandson, Brandon; his sister, Thelma Parks, numerous relatives and friends; and his dog, Bobbie.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Elliott and Frances Hickman; 5 brothers Charles, Irvin, Clinton, Bobbie, Lloyd Hickman and 2 sisters Mary Jean Pressley and Lucille Cox; and by numerous other relatives.
Carroll was no stranger to hard work, always helping anyone he could without asking anything in return. He loved working on his farm, taking care of his cattle, llamas, and his pet goat. He enjoyed playing pool at Senior Citizens, but most of all he loved singing Gospel music. Some of his favorite songs were “When the Roll is Called Up Yonder,” “It is Well with My Soul,” and “Just a Little Talk with Jesus.” He volunteered for over 30 years ministering Gospel music to the residents at the local nursing homes. Over 25 years were spent volunteering at Brooke Haven. He received the “Volunteer of the Year” award in
2018. Carroll will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Mr. Hickman was a Korean War Veteran having served in the United States Army.
He was a Christian and a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.
Per his wishes, no services were held. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association in Carroll’s memory.

James F. Linson

James Franklin Linson was born in Thayer, Missouri, the son of James F. Linson and Elsie A. Grooms Linson on December 11, 1930, and departed this life on August 3, 2021 in Shady Oaks Health Care Center in Thayer, Missouri, at the age of 90 years.

He was united in marriage to Elsie Lorene Miller on May 14, 1955 in Wichita, Kansas, who preceded him in death on February 1, 2018.

Frank is survived by his step-son, Wesley Miller and wife Shirley; one son-in-law, Mike Aday; one daughter-in-law, Alice Linson; one sister, Janice Collins; three brothers, Carl Linson and wife Joan, Lonnie Linson and wife Martha, and Kenneth Linson and wife Mabel; five grandchildren, Christopher Miller and wife Jennifer, Paula Torrez, Kenny Linson and wife Michelle, Jason Aday and wife Casey, and Justin Aday and wife Jeanie; nine great grandchildren, Halley Gilbert, Courtney Lane, Jorden Linson, Samuel Miller, Hanna Miller, Kaitlyn Aday, Makynzie Aday, Mattox Lawson, and Colton Lawson; one great great grandchild, Ramona Gilbert; several nieces and nephews; other relatives; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Elsie Linson; his wife, Elsie Linson; one son, Stanley Linson; one daughter, Charlotte Linson Aday; one granddaughter, Terri Linson; one sister, Lucille Forester; and one brother, Donald Linson.

Frank was a Navy veteran, having served on board ship during the Korean War. He worked for Boeing Aircraft in Wichita, Kansas for more than 20 years. He retired and moved back to Missouri where he and Elsie enjoyed living on their farm.

He will be missed by his family and all that knew him.

Raymond Kyle Linson

Carter Funeral Home Thayer

Raymond “Kyle” Linson, beloved son, brother, and friend to many, was born on September 14, 1969 in West Plains, Missouri to Bill and Beverly (Lowe) Linson. On July 28, 2021, he accepted his promotion to direct a glorious choir in heaven at the age of 51.

Kyle graduated from Arkansas State University with a degree in secondary vocal music education. He taught high school choir at Sikeston High School, while also serving as music director for local churches and community choirs. Shortly thereafter he pursued his dream of directing choral music in the Methodist church and accepted a call to lead at St. John’s United Methodist in Memphis, Tennessee. Next, he accepted an appointment to Central United Methodist in Kansas City. His ultimate goal was to serve as music director at the First United Methodist Church in Little Rock, Arkansas, to which he accepted the call in 2013.

In his mother’s words, “Kyle knew everybody. He never met a stranger.” And, as his legion of friends throughout the midwest and south will attest, this is true. Kyle was incredibly gifted at getting things done on a grand scheme. His talent for taking small ensembles and growing and developing them into world-class choirs, one of which performed at Carnegie Hall in New York City, was truly inspirational.

Kyle is survived by his parents, Bill and Beverly of West Plains, MO, a brother Craig (Marci) of Blue Eye, MO, nieces Katie (Mason) Farris and grand-niece Goldie, of Lynchburg, VA, and Tressa (Jeremy) Asbury, of Joplin, MO. Kyle is also survived by a very loving group of friends, and if we began to call them by name, it would take forever. However, the family is grateful for Dennis Horn, Connie Hartline, Laine Harber, Pastor Donna Hankins, Justin Donaldson, Pastor David Freeman, and Darrin Clanton, among many, many others.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents Bill and Tressa Linson and Raymond and Dorothy Lowe.

While our hearts are broken and our tears flow freely, we know that every teardrop is physical evidence of the fullness of our hearts; hearts abundantly filled with joyful memories of Kyle.

Kyle’s dear friends in Little Rock are planning a celebration of his life to be announced at a later date.

The family will have a private burial service on August 2 with services under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc. in Thayer, Missouri.

The family asks in lieu of flowers for memorial gifts to First United Methodist Church, 723 Center Street, Little Rock, AR 72201.

Ryan McDaniel

Ryan Harlin McDaniel, 39, West Plains, Missouri passed away July 22, 2021.

Ryan was born April 9, 1982 in West Plains, Missouri to Terry and Teresa McDaniel.

On July 14, 2007 he married the love of his life, Wendy Duncan. On January 1, 2004 and on October 15, 2009 he welcomed his two beautiful daughters, Kourtnee Sue and Kiley Jean.

Ryan is survived by his wife, Wendy Duncan McDaniel; two daughters, Kourtnee and Kiley; his mother, Teresa Wells McDaniel, and grandmother, Flo McDaniel; aunts, Terri Harrill and husband Alan, West Plains, Darlene Walker and husband Mark, Rogersville, and Sharon Morris and husband Mike, West Plains; brothers-in-law, Anthony Nolan, West Plains, Billy Duncan, West Plains, Tony Duncan, Portageville, Missouri, and Josh Wilson, Portageville, Missouri; nieces and nephews, Olivia and Kensie Nolan and Michael Duncan; cousins, Jeff McDaniel, Tara Orr, Bryce Harrill, Ben Knight, and many other cousins; David Battle, a lifelong friend and the man who stepped in as Ryan’s father after the passing of his dad.

He was preceded in death by his father, Terry McDaniel; mother-in-law, Brenda Duncan; father-in-law, Jack Duncan; grandpa E. J. McDaniel; grandparents, Truman and Jackie Wells; special family friend, Dave Smith, and friends more like brothers, David Riley, Dylan Cleaves and Jamie Stowers (cousin), and Uncle Rick McDaniel and Aunt Bonnie McDaniel.

Ryan was employed with the city of West Plains for eighteen years as a heavy equipment operator. He was currently employed by Gerdan Slipforming.

Ryan was a devoted husband, father, and son. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and spending time with his many friends and family members. His biggest enjoyment were his girls. He enjoyed watching them participate and travel in their sports. He was their #1 fan.

To know him was to love him and he loved all. Ryan was a kind and loving man to everyone. Those who knew him well will always have good stories to tell. He had a kind spirt, generous heart, and was always willing to help others. There was never a dull moment when Ryan was around.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to his daughters, Kiley and Kourtnee McDaniel.

Ryan will lie in state Tuesday, July 27, 2021 from 8:00 a.m. until time of service.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 27, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at Carter Funeral Home Chapel, West Plains, Missouri.

Finis Boyd “Bub” Sorrell

Finis Boyd “Bub” Sorrell was born April 4, 1959 in Pocahontas, Arkansas, the son of Robert Gene Sorrell and Mary Lou Boyd Sorrell, and departed this life on July 19, 2021 in West Plains, Missouri at the age of 62.

Bub is survived by his parents, Robert and Mary Lou Sorrell of Myrtle, Missouri; by four children, David Sorrell and wife Leona of Leachville, Arkansas, Darrin Sorrell and wife Lacey of Thayer, Missouri, Shelby Jones and husband Skylar of Doniphan, Missouri, and Mallory Mooney and husband Dakota of Doniphan, Missouri; one brother, Bobby Sorrell and wife Tammy; one sister, Stacee Peters and husband Dave; twelve grandchildren, Angela, Mason, Rylee Jo, Cade, Matthew and Grace Sorrell, Tommy Stone, Canton, Zeke and Birdie Jones, and Rivers and Rayni Mooney; other relatives,; and countless friends.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Cathy Sorrell.

Bub graduated from high school in 1977. He was a lifelong farmer, both as a dairy farmer and livestock producer.

He was a Christian.

Bub loved watching sports, especially basketball and baseball. He enjoyed farming and liked to hunt and fish. Bub also had the gift of gab and very engaging in conversations. However, most of all, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He will truly be missed by his family and friends.

Mary Evelyn Todd

Mary Evelyn Todd was born in Couch, Missouri, the daughter of Herbert (Jake) Summers and Edith Bates Summers on January 16, 1944, and passed away on July 17, 2021 at Shady Oaks Health Care Center in Thayer, Missouri at the age of 77.

She was united in marriage to William Todd who preceded her in death. They made their home in El Paso, Texas where Mary sold Avon and was a homemaker.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Jake Summers and Edith Robinson; her husband, William Todd; one brother, James Summers; and one sister, Emmer Summers.

She is survived by three sisters, Shirley Cockman and Inez (Jean) Hall of Gainesville, Missouri and Ella Oakes and husband Jerry of Thayer, Missouri; one brother, Mark Summers and wife Cindy of Orlando, Oklahoma; several nieces, nephews and cousins; other relatives; and many friends.

Mary graduated from Couch High School.

She was a Christian.

Mary enjoyed her cats and turtles, especially the large turtle that lived in her yard in Texas. She also liked to read. She loved spending time with her family.

Mary was loved by many and will be greatly missed.

William “Bill” Clark

William “Bill” Clark, 58, West Plains, Missouri died July 6, 2021 at his home in West Plains, Missouri.

He was born the son of the late Ira Donald Clark and Ruth Colter Clark, on October 10, 1962 in Sacramento, California and died July 6, 2021 in West Plains, Missouri.

He was united in marriage July 7, 1995 in Mammoth Spring, Arkansas to Carla Daily, who preceded him in death.

He is survived by three children, Linda “Clark” Kerley and husband Lonnie, West Plains, Missouri and David Daily and wife Christina, Willow Springs, Missouri, and Hila Daily and Sam Kinder, West Plains, Missouri; two sisters, Sharon Clark, VanBuren, Missouri and Annette Oesch, West Plains, Missouri; one sister-law-in, Linda Clark, VanBuren, Missouri; twelve grandchildren, Garrett Bullock, Nathaniel Bullock, Elijah Means, Nevaeh Daily, Zaxai Daily, David Daily, Jr., Kadence Knox, Will Knox, Cecilya Knox, Mekka Kinder, John Kinder, and James Kinder.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his spouse, Carla Clark; one brother, Donnie Clark and one sister, Terry Jackson; two very special uncles, Uncle Dan and Uncle Mike. He loved to go snake hunting, building model cars, traveling the back roads looking for deer, and spending time with family. He had a big love for tow trucks or wreckers.

Local arrangements were under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc., West Plains.

A memorial service will be held Monday, July 19, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in West Plains, Missouri.
