Youel Briscoe of West Plains, was born November 13, 1932 in Ozark County, Missouri, to the late Glen and Eathel Briscoe. He passed away in his home the morning of November 26th, at the age of 92 with his wife and his sons by his side.
“Briscoe” as he preferred to be called, was born November 13th, 1932 in Ozark County Missouri to Glen and Eathel Briscoe. Youel was their only child together. He grew up on the family farm on the outskirts of West Plains and did travel the state with his parents during the 1930s as Glen would follow employment opportunities during the depression. By the time WWII ended, he was a teenager and the family moved into town from the farm. He graduated high school in West Plains in 1951. He was soon surprised to find a letter from the United States Army requesting his presence to serve his country in the Korean War. Soon thereafter, Betty Lane, accepted his marriage proposal and were married, December 31st, 1952.
After working for several big name companies in both St. Louis and Kansas City, he decided he would be a barber and work for himself, so he opened up his own barber shop in Kansas City in 1960. He raised his family well and was a very devoted family man. “Briscoe” and Betty went their own way in 1983 and it was at that time he took a new job helping a friend’s company by driving a truck all over the United States setting up computer sales expo’s. He looked back fondly at this time, always having a story to tell of his traveling adventures.
By the late 1980’s his mother, Eathel, was sick, and so he went back to West Plains for good this time to help his mother and run the rural mail route that had been serviced by the family for decades. It was early in the 1990’s when he met Veta Collins and on August 30th 1993, they wed. Soon after he retired from the mail route, and then spent his days as a day trader in the stock market.
“Briscoe” had many friends, both old and new, and loved living at Walnut Grove Senior Apartments where “everyone knows everyone,” he would say. He and Veta attended Immanuel Baptist Church, and really missed not being able to be with his church family the last couple of months due to health.
“Briscoe” is survived by his wife of 31 amazing years, Veta Briscoe. He is also survived by his oldest son, Mark Briscoe, daughter in law, Lori, youngest son, Kirk, and Veta’s daughters, Kim and Elaine; eight grandchildren, Mitchell, Kasey, Carissa, Mallori, Shelby, Carllie, Stephanie and Melissa, and eighteen great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Glen (1981) and Eathel (1993).

Briscoe was an interesting good man. Him and Veta made a wonderful couple, they would come to lake Norfork and he was always ready for a cup of coffee. We so enjoyed our conversation on several occasions throughout is life. We will miss him but he knew it was his time to meet his creator.
