Alfred Lohr

Alfred James Lohr was born the son of Ernest Henry Lohr and Nora Ellen (Harrod) Lohr on December 30, 1915, in Billmore, Missouri and departed this life November 10, 2013, in Thayer, Missouri at the age of 97 years.

He was united in marriage on September 18, 1950, in Salem, Arkansas to Helen Gray, who preceded him in death on March 9, 1987.

He is survived by two children, Janice Helen Kelley and husband, John of Los Angeles, California and David Alfred Lohr and wife, Anita Jean of Thayer, Missouri; two grandchildren, Alfred J. Lohr and William D. Lohr; eight step grandchildren; eight step great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Nora Lohr; one infant daughter, Janet Nola Lohr; three brothers, Leonard W. Lohr, Cleo A. Lohr and William H. Lohr; and two sisters, Anna McComb and Alma M. Pingleton.

Mr. Lohr served his country in the United States Army during World War II. After returning from military service, Alfred started working in the logging industry and owned and operated his own sawmill for many years.

His passion for God’s word was evident as he read and studied his Bible daily, having read the entire Bible many times during his life.

He loved to deer hunt and hunted well into his 90’s, killing his last deer at the age of 92 and going on his last hunt at the age of 93. A.J. also enjoyed fishing, archery, and re-loading shells.

He was a Christian of the Assembly of God faith, and a member of the American Legion Post #344.

He was devoted to his family and was a loyal neighbor and friend. He will truly be missed by all.

Funeral Services for Mr. Lohr will be Friday, November 15, 2013 at 2:00 PM at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer with Brother Bill Bales officiating.

The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home in Thayer on Thursday evening, November 14th from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.

Burial will be in the New Home Cemetery, East of Koshkonong, with services under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc. in Thayer.
