Lillian Dovie (McGhee) Thompson was born November 17, 1923 in Myrtle, Missouri, the daughter of Wess McGhee and Minnie Rutledge McGhee and departed this life on August 29, 2020 in Farmington, Missouri, at the age of 96 years and 10 months.
She was united in marriage to Paul Eugene Thompson on December 19, 1942. To this union six children were born: Gene (G.W.) Thompson and his wife, Debbie of Wentzville, Missouri, Dwight Thompson and his wife, Brenda of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, Marsheila Gast and husband, Keith of Columbia, Missouri, Charline Rau and husband, Pete of Farmington, Missouri, Detra House of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, and Pat Hall of Pocahontas, Arkansas. Lillian was also survived by two sisters, Vada Foster of Biggers, Arkansas and June Cole of Clinton, Missouri; fifteen grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; thirty great great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; other relatives; and countless friends.
Lillian was preceded in death by her parents, Wess and Minnie McGhee; her husband, Paul Thompson; her son, James Lenord (J.L.) Thompson; two brothers, Truman McGhee and Charlie McGhee; one sister, Pearl McGhee; one daughter-in-law, Sue Thompson; one grandson, Paul Scott Crane; two granddaughters, Valarie Johnson and Cathy Thompson; and two sons-in-law, Frank House and James Martin.
She was a Christian and of the Baptist faith.
Lillian worked at the Thayer garment factory as a seamstress. She worked at the Couch School as a custodian. She also worked at the Alton Senior Citizen’s Center. However, she was primarily a homemaker.
Later, she enjoyed going to the Thayer Senior Citizen’s Center to visit with friends.
She will truly be missed by her family and all that knew her.
Funeral services for Lillian D. Thompson will be held Tuesday, September 1, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer, Missouri with Brother Russell Hensley officiating.
The family will receive friends on Monday, August 31, 2020 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Carter Funeral Home in Thayer, Missouri.
Burial will be on Tuesday, September 1, 2020 in the Cotton Creek Cemetery in Couch, Missouri with services under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc. in Thayer, Missouri.
