Wanda Sue Burkhead was born in Thayer, Missouri, the daughter of Otto Honeycutt and Grace Hackworth Honeycutt on December 31, 1942 and departed this life on September 23, 2018, in West Plains, Missouri, at the age of 75 years.
She was united in marriage to Bill Burkhead on July 31, 1960 in Garfield, Missouri. He preceded her in death on October 2, 2015.
She is survived by her son, Greg Burkhead and wife, Kim, of Arab, Alabama; four sisters, Lucille Underwood and husband, Ralph, of Thayer, Missouri, Linda Kay Brewer and husband, Junior, of Thayer, Missouri, Brenda Garrison and husband, David, of Myrtle, Missouri, and Lana Chester and husband, Rick, of Myrtle, Missouri; three grandchildren, David Sorrell and wife, Leona, Darrin Sorrell and wife, Lacey, and Brad Burkhead and wife, Mary; eight great grandchildren, Angela, Mason, Rylee Jo, Cade, Tommy, Matthew, Gracie and Neely; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Burkhead; her parents, Otto and Grace Honeycutt; one daughter, Angie Sorrell; and two brothers, Eddie and David Honeycutt.
Sue was a faithful member of Pleasant Hill Freewill Baptist Church, serving as secretary and clerk for forty-two devoted years.
She was a hairdresser, retiring after many years of service to her loyal customers.
She was an avid reader, especially when it came to reading her Bible. She also loved playing with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a devoted and loving mother to her children and never missed her daily phone call with her son, Greg.
Sue was deeply devoted to her family and loved spending time with her brothers and sisters. Sue will be deeply missed by all that knew her.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 27, 2018 at 10:00 AM at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer with Brother Jason Roberts and Brother Bryce King officiating.
The family will receive friends at Carter Funeral Home in Thayer on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
Interment will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery east of Thayer with services under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc. in Thayer.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory can be made to the American Cancer Society and left at the Funeral Home.
