Davene Carleta Green was born the daughter of R.V. and Lillian Hayes on July 5, 1929, in Thayer, Missouri, and departed this life January 11, 2018, in West Plains, Missouri, at the age of 88 years.
She was united in marriage on July 19, 1946, in Reno, Nevada to A.C. Green, who preceded her in death on March 13, 2005.
She is survived by one son, Richard Green and wife, LaWanda of Thayer, Missouri; one daughter, Lynn Wheeler of Springfield, Missouri; one daughter-in-law, Joyce Haynes and husband, Jerry; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Kenneth Green and Caprice, Heather Wallace and Blake, Jonathan Green and Stephanie, Micheal Green and Summer, Melody Hall and Garry, Nakoma Wheeler and Lela, and Nathan Wheeler and Stephanie; one grandson-in-law, David Adams and wife, Sadie; twenty-three great grandchildren; a special niece, Faye Roppo; nephew, Rod; niece, Cindy; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Hayes and Donna Hayes; other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, R.V. and Lillian Hayes; her husband, A.C. Green; her son, David Green; one granddaughter, LaJena Adams; three infant grandsons; and two brothers, Rillis and Donald Hayes.
Davene was a homemaker and truly made her house a home for her family. She loved family get-togethers, camping, fishing, singing and dancing with her grandchildren, photography, and oil painting.
She enjoyed doing volunteer work at Shady Oaks Healthcare and Thayer Fun and Friends Center.
Davene was a Christian lady and a faithful life-long member of Midway Pentecostal Church.
She will truly be missed by her family, church family, and many friends.
Funeral services will be held Monday, January 15, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer with Brother Charles Barnett and Brother Anthony Woods officiating.
The family will receive friends at the chapel on Monday, January 15th from 12:00 noon until service time.
Burial will be in Thayer Cemetery with services under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc in Thayer.
