Johnny Ray Dowdy was born the son of Otto Dowdy and Lourana Bell Dowdy on January 29, 1941, in Mammoth Spring, Arkansas, and departed this life December 30, 2017, at his home in Koshkonong, Missouri, at the age of 76 years.
He was united in marriage on November 15, 1974, at West Plains, Missouri, to Linda Frost.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Dowdy of Koshkonong, Missouri; three children, George Dowdy of Farmington, New Mexico, Mary Foret of West Memphis, Arkansas, and Elizabeth Ambrose and husband, James of Koshkonong, Missouri; two stepsons, Jimmie Davis and Marty Johnson, both of Lexington, Tennessee; four grandchildren, Jennifer Raymond, Nicole Dennis, Mary Beth Elvington, and Nicole Smith; six great grandchildren; nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Lourana Dowdy; one brother, Jesse Dowdy; three sisters, Tressie Michaels, Laura Abney, and Ruby Hollis; and one stepson, Ronnie Elvington.
Johnny Ray was a well known and dependable livestock trucker in this area, retiring after many years of hauling livestock.
He enjoyed the outdoors, especially the sports of hunting and fishing.
He was a Christian and a member of the Church of Christ.
He will truly be missed by his family and many friends.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, January 4, 2018 at 2:00 PM at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer, Missouri.
The family will receive friends at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, January 4th from 1:00 PM until service time at 2:00.
Burial will be in the Wayside Cemetery with services under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc. in Thayer.

Fond memories of Mr. Dowdy will remain with us both: from Butch’s early trucking years & Donna’s years in Koshkonong. He will be missed by all. A true cowboy if we ever saw one!
