James Lee Summers was born the son of Herbert Lee “Jake” Summers and Edith Bates Summers on July 7, 1942, in Thayer, Missouri, and departed this life December 3, 2017, at Shady Oaks Health Care in Thayer, Missouri, at the age of 75 years.
He was united in marriage on June 18, 1960, in Myrtle, Missouri, to Dorris Louise Garrison.
He is survived by his wife, Dorris Summers of Myrtle, Missouri; two children, Deanna Summers of Jefferson City, Missouri and James Michael Summers and wife, Sandy of Myrtle, Missouri; five grandchildren, Mikael, Jill, Cierra, Sheyenne, and Jake; one brother, Mark Summers and wife, Cindy of Orlando, Oklahoma; four sisters, Mary Todd, Shirley Cockman, Jean Hall, and Ella Mae Oakes and husband, Jerry, all of Thayer, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jake and Edith Summers.
James was a graduate of Couch High School, graduating with the class of 1960.
He was a well-known auctioneer, a livestock farmer, and custodian at Couch High School for many years.
James was a Christian and a member of the Byrd Free Will Baptist Church.
He was a loving and devoted family man and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandkids.
He will truly be missed by his family, friends, and the community in which he lived.
Graveside Services will be held Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Byrd Cemetery, near Myrtle, Missouri with Brother Richard Todd and Brother Joe Garrison officiating.
The family will receive friends at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, December 5th from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.
Burial will be in the Byrd Cemetery with services under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc. in Thayer.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Byrd Cemetery.
