Johnnie Lee Byers, Junior was born the son of Johnnie C. Byers and Iva G. (Jones) Byers on July 7, 1946, in Mammoth Spring, Arkansas, and died March 19, 2017, in West Plains, Missouri, at the age of 70 years.

He was united in marriage on December 29, 1987, at Hardy, Arkansas, to Dora Barnett.

He is survived by his wife, Dora Byers of the home in Mammoth Spring; six children, Timothy Byers and wife, Cindy of Springfield, Missouri, Teddy Byers of Hardy, Arkansas, Johnnie D. Byers of Springfield, Shelli Nobles and husband, Jimmie of Big Sandy, Tennessee, James Rance and wife, Melissa of Ava, Missouri, Donna Byers and husband, Farrell of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas; twelve grandchildren; four great grandchildren; three brothers, Doug Byers of Hardy, Arkansas, Darrell Byers and Farrell Byers, both of Mammoth Spring; four sisters, Sharon Putman of Mammoth Spring, Mary Etta Rickard and Donna Collins, both of Hardy, and Ivlean Hocum of Mammoth Spring; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnnie and Iva Byers.

Johnnie was a veteran of the United States Army. He proudly served in the Armour Division “Hell on Wheels” during the Vietnam War.

He was a machine operator for Cherokee Frame Company for thirty-one years and was a livestock farmer.

Johnnie loved working in his vegetable garden and growing beautiful flowers. He was an avid sports fan and always enjoyed watching Dodgers baseball and Lakers basketball games.

He was a member of Banks Baptist Church. He will truly be missed by his family, friends, and the community in which he lived.

Funeral services for Johnnie Lee Byers Junior will be held Friday, March 24, 2017, at 2:00 PM at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer, with Brother Linney Finney officiating.

The family will receive friends Friday from 1:00 until service time at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer.

Burial will be in the Perry Cemetery near Hardy, Arkansas with services under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc. in Thayer.

    Our prayers are with Junior’s family at this time. Mom said she would like to come today but doesn’t feel she is up to a long day out.
