Dorothy Bales, daughter of the late Fredrick Benjamin Newell and Esther Mae St. Clair Newell, was born November 3, 1921 in Denver, Colorado, and died in West Plains, Missouri, on November 26, 2024 at the age of 103 years.
Dorothy graduated from high school in Englewood, Colorado, with the class of 1940 and in September of 1941, was united in marriage to Russell Bales. To this union three children were born, Edith, Lloyd and Mary. Dorothy was a devoted wife and mother and worked as a bookkeeper for eleven years there.
In 1964, Dorothy and her husband moved to West Plains, Missouri where they began farming and raising beef cattle.
Dorothy loved her family, reading and traveling. She enjoyed helping others and loved to prepare Sunday dinner for her family. Her legendary cinnamon rolls were family favorites.
Dorothy was a Christian and attended Faith Assembly of God Church with her husband for several years, and then, in her later years, attended Central Calvary Baptist Church.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Russell; son, Lloyd; three nephews; one sister and brother-in-law; three great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.
Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Edith Wood and husband, Neil and Mary Warren, husband, Steve; daughter-in-law Beth Bales; eleven grandchildren, Cheryl, Sheila, Elizabeth, Samuel, Timothy, David, Travis, Kristie, Joey, Jamie, and Jennie; many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews, and one special niece Sharon.
Funeral services for Dorothy will be held Friday, December 6, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Carter Funeral Home Chapel, West Plains, Missouri. Visitation with the family is to be held one hour prior to the service.
