Mary Imogene Langley Peace
Mary Imogene Langley Peace, of Thayer, Missouri, passes away on March 24, 2023, celebrating her 90th birthday in Heaven.
She was born to the late Roy and Myrtle Langley on March 24, 1933, at Rose Hill near Thayer, Missouri. Imogene attended Thayer High School and worked at Puritan Fashions Factory and Paddle & Saddle outlet in Mammoth Spring. She was a member of the Mammoth Spring First Baptist Church and in later years the Thayer First Baptist Church. Imogene was known for her spunk and sense of humor. She was also known for her huge heart and love of family and friends, inviting them into her home for home-cooked meals and sharing her hand-crafted treasures, such as quilts, necklaces, or stuffed animals. She had a 40+ years of collections of music boxes, which are now shared with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a diehard fan of Thayer Bobcat sports, the Cardinals, Mizzou, and Democrats.
She was married to Ray Peace in 1962 who proceeded her in death. Survivors include 2 sons: Billy Pitchford (Cindy) of Springfield, MO, and Jackie Peace (Leanne) of Columbia, MO and their families. She is also survived by her adopted sister : Dorothy Meeks, daughter-in-law Sheila Smith and family, daughter-in-law Marla Smith, daughter-in-law Nora Coats-Smith and family, and adopted daughter, Gina Tucker and family, 11 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandson. In addition, she had several lifelong family friends, such as Nancy Ames; and multiple nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her sons: Sony Smith of Buckeye, AZ; Bob Smith of Thayer, MO, and Keith Smith of Thayer, MO, and her brother, Jack Langley.
There will be no community service, per her wishes. She chose to give the gracious gift of her body to science to further medical education. However, you can think of her fondly during this Cardinal season.
