Walta Maxine (Alford) Miller was born the daughter of William Frank Alford and Lila B. (Rodgers) Alford on February 3, 1922, in Oregon County, Missouri, and departed this life on March 19, 2015, at her home in Mammoth Spring, Arkansas, at the age of 93 years.
She was united in marriage at Salem, Arkansas, on October 7, 1944, to Arthur Hildred Miller who preceded her in death on November 24, 2001.
She is survived by three sons, Arthur Miller, Jr. and wife, Susan of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas, Kenneth Miller and wife, Karen of Fairfax, Oklahoma, and Eugene Miller and wife, Holly of Mammoth Spring; two daughters, Maxine Crawford and husband, George of McLean, Texas, and Rebecca Harmon of Mammoth Spring; fifteen grandchildren, Elizabeth Ambrose, George Dowdy, David Bowen, Jr., Christopher Bowen, Laura Chapman, Franklin Jones, Jason Miller, Dennis Jones, Heather West, Jevon Miller, Austin Miller, Allen Miller, Sara Brackett, Ben Miller and Justina Johnson; thirty-four great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; two brothers, Alfred Alford of West Plains, Missouri, and Haston Alford and wife, Wanda of Malin, Oregon; two sisters, Lela Riggs of Kansas City, Missouri, and Helen Buckner of Virginia Beach, Virginia; numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Lila Alford; her husband, Arthur Miller, Sr.; and one son-in-law, Mike Harmon.
Walta graduated from Alton High School with the class of 1939, and after receiving her teaching certificate, taught at the rural school in Greer, Missouri.
She was a dedicated homemaker. Her greatest joy in life was caring for her family and spending time with her grandchildren. She loved quilting and knitting and enjoyed baking cakes and other treats for them.
She was an active member of the Church of Christ, a devoted mother and loving grandmother. She will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Miller will be Saturday, March 21, 2015, at 2:00 PM at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer, Missouri, with Shawn Deree and Larry Yarber officiating.
The family will receive friends at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer on Friday evening, March 20th, from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.
Burial will be in the Moten Cemetery near Mammoth Spring, Arkansas.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Paragould Children’s Home and may be left at the Funeral Home in Thayer.

As a child we would go visit with Hildred and Walta, there house always felt like home, they were the best, I will always remember them both, Walta was always busy and would always try to do things for others, she will be greatly missed by friends and family, sympathy for the family, Our love to all the family
