Richard Steve Smith was born the son of Noril Edmond Smith and Katy Louise (Christian) Smith on November 12, 1962, in West Plains, Missouri, and departed this life on April 13, 2016, at his home near Mammoth Spring, Arkansas, at the age of 53 years.

He was united in marriage on March 1, 2014, at Cherokee Village, Arkansas, to Amber Rané Smith.

He is survived by his wife, Amber Smith of the home in Mammoth Spring; one son, Eric Smith of Springfield, Missouri; one granddaughter, Brooklyn Smith of Springfield; three sisters, Dorothy Sprouse and husband, Onan of Corning, Arkansas, Jeanetta “PeeWee” Moore and husband, Clint of Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas, and Mary Weiand and husband, Tony of Ash Flat, Arkansas; numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Noril and Katy Smith; and his brother, Noril Dean Smith.

Richard was a heavy equipment operator and was employed for many years at Arkansas Quality Stone in Ash Flat. He was a long-time member of the Ozark Acres volunteer fire department near Wirth, Arkansas.

He loved dirt-track stock car racing. For many years he was a regular driver at the speedway in West Plains, winning numerous trophies and awards. He enjoyed the outdoors and especially, deer hunting.

Richard was of the Baptist faith. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, brother and friend. He will truly be missed.

Funeral Services for Richard Smith, age 53, of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas, will be held Friday, April 15, 2016, at 2:00 PM at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer, Missouri, with Erman Croney officiating.

The family will receive friends at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer on Thursday evening, April 14th, from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.

Burial will be in the Field Creek Cemetery, with services under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc. in Thayer.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to his family to assist with funeral arrangements, and may be left at the Funeral Home in Thayer.
