Graveside services for Mary Evelyn Tharp, 89, West Plains, Missouri, will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 9, 2021, at Ary Town Cemetery with Brother Bill Bales officiating, under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, West Plains.
She was born the daughter of the late Elza Hollis and Edna Mae McElroy Hollis, on August 18, 1931 in Thayer, Missouri and died June 30, 2021 in West Plains, Missouri.
She was united in marriage June 16, 1949 in Mammoth Spring, Arkansas to Ross Tharp, who preceded her in death.
She is survived by one son-in-law, Donald Powell, West Plains, Missouri; two grandchildren, Aaron Powell, West Plains, Missouri and Jacquie Tharp, and one brother, Glen Hollis and wife Wanda, Blue Springs, Missouri.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Jack Tharp and one daughter, Connie Powell; one daughter-in-law, Judy Tharp; two brothers, Leahmon Hollis and Kenneth Hollis.
She attended the Thayer Freewill Baptist Church and Banks Baptist Church in Oregon County, Missouri. She was a hard worker, always had to be working at something. She loved to garden, and loved to can her garden harvest. She also loved to take her vegetables to the Howell County Fair and show them off. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Mary will lie in state Thursday, July 8, 2021 at Carter Funeral Home Chapel, West Plains, Missouri from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Burial will be in Ary town Cemetery under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc., West Plains.
