Edith Fern Kirby was born in Many Springs, Missouri, the daughter of Samuel ‘S.S.’ Sterling Lance and Lora Harriell Lance on February 27, 1931 and departed this life on March 5, 2019 at Shady Oaks Healthcare in Thayer, Missouri, at the age of 88 years.
She is survived by her son, Jonathan Kirby and wife, Betty Gail, of Evening Shade, Arkansas; one brother, Mac Lance and wife, Lillian, of Granite City, Illinois; two grandsons, Matt Kirby of Texas and Devan Kirby of Arkansas; one step grandson, Travis Cook of Hoxie, Arkansas; one sister-in-law, Leona Lance of St. Louis, Missouri; six great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; other relatives; and countless friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Lora Lance; two brothers, Dow and Van Lance; three sisters, Zee, Glee and Fay Lance; one grandson, Perry John Kirby; and her best friend, Lanny Newsome.
Edith was of the Freewill Baptist faith. She spent many years as a factory worker in St. Louis, Missouri. She helped make all sorts of items, from fuses to baby shoes.
Her favorite thing to do was TV shopping. She loved ordering things off of television shopping networks. She also enjoyed going out to eat with her best friend of twenty plus years, Lanny. Most of all, she loved spending time with her son and her grandchildren.
Edith will be remembered as a loving and caring mother, sister, grandmother, and a friend to all. She will truly be missed by all that knew her.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 8, 2019 at 2:00 pm at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer, Missouri with Brother Paul Richards officiating.
Family will receive friends on Friday, March 8, 2019 from 12:30 pm until service time at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel.
Interment will be held at Lance Cemetery in Alton, Missouri.
Arrangements are under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc. in Thayer, Missouri.
