Edd Junior Washam was born in Mammoth Spring, Arkansas, the son of Ritchie Washam and Allie Land Washam on July 10, 1927 and departed this life on May 26, 2019 at Fulton County Hospital in Salem, Arkansas, at the age of 91 years.
He was united in marriage to Rosemary Langston on February 12, 1950 in Mammoth Spring, Arkansas. They spent sixty-nine wonderful years together.
He is survived by his wife, Rosemary Washam of the home, in Mammoth Spring, Arkansas; three children, Tessie Jean Harper of Los Angeles, California, Anna Lee DeShazo and husband, Bruce, of Glenpool, Oklahoma, and Edwin Dwight Washam of the home, in Mammoth Spring, Arkansas; three grandchildren, Kevin DeShazo and wife, Megan, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Lindsey Wiseman and husband, Brad, of Salem, Arkansas, and Brittani VanWinkle and husband, Larmon, of Conway, Arkansas; seven great grandchildren; he was a special uncle to his many nieces and nephews, especially Dale and Eugene Washam and their families, who were instrumental in his care; other relatives; and countless friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ritchie and Allie Washam; three brothers, Ned, Amos and Art Washam; and one sister, Rita Collins.
Edd was a lifelong member of the Mammoth Spring Church of Christ. He was a member of the American Legion Post #55 in Mammoth Spring and former member of Mammoth Spring Lions Club.
Along with his wife, Rosemary, he owned and operated Washam’s Hardware in Mammoth Spring, Arkansas for over fifteen years.
He spent many years plotting and caring for Riverside Cemetery, often helping people locate their loved one’s grave. During his free time, he loved to golf and watch the St. Louis Cardinals. Most of all, he was deeply devoted to his family.
Edd will be remembered as a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and a friend to all. He will truly be missed by all that knew him.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 31, 2019 at 2:00 PM at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer.
The body will lie in state at the funeral home on Thursday, May 30th from noon until 8:00 PM. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, May 31st from 1:00 PM until service time.
Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, in Mammoth Spring, Arkansas, with services under the direction of Carter Funeral Home in Thayer.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Paragould Children’s Home or to St. Jude’s Research Hospital.
