Vergie A. Bales of West Plains Mo and formerly of Thayer MO was born to Granville Harold (G.H.) Fuller and Mary Lutica Cochran Fuller on September 12, 1930 at Koshkonong MO. She entered her heavenly home on March 27, 2022 at the age of 91 years, 5 months, and 15 days.
She was united in marriage to Donie Bales on July 12, 1958 in Alton MO. Vergie spent her married life as a homemaker and a dedicated wife, supporting Don’s accomplished Army career, and later, his career at Carter Funeral Home.
After Don’s death, Vergie spent most of her time with her sister Edith, going wherever their car would take them for the day. It was never a surprise to see Edith’s car in your driveway with Vergie in the passenger seat. Aunt Vergie loved her family, loving her nieces and nephews as if they were her own children. We will forever giggle at the thought of Aunt Vergie’s “selective” participation in conversations at family gatherings. Rest assured that Aunt Vergie heard every word we said, even in her last days.
She is survived by her nieces, Marilyn Langston (Buddy) who was her caretaker, her Diet Coke supplier, and a fierce advocate for her care, Angie Sutherland (Christy), Pam Harpole (Mike) and Donna Piper; her nephews, Rodney Sutherland (Rhonda), Ronnie Sutherland (the late Jodie Sutherland), Dennis Sutherland (Debi), Doug Sutherland (Doylene), Lonnie Hutson(Carol) and Gary Hutson; her brothers-in-law, Bill Bales(Joann) and Jack Bales(Margie), many great nieces and nephews, and the many dedicated caregivers and friends of Pleasant Valley Manor and West Vue Nursing Center.

Shelley worked in manufacturing throughout her life. She worked at several plants, but most remembered by her girls was the turkey factory which gave them the love-hate relationship with the food. She also worked in several boat manufacturing sites and enjoyed telling about the new or different things she would see.
Shelley was blessed with the “gift of gab”, which her daughters and most of her grandchildren also inherited. She would talk to anyone about anything, everything and nothing. She never met a stranger and was friends with everyone. She loved meeting people and visiting. Her hobbies included playing cards, baking when her kids were younger, singing every song she could from the 60’s & 70’s country music era (she was really good at it), and in her later years, she loved watching tv shows. Her phone conversations had to revolve around the schedule of her shows.
She will truly be missed by her family and friends.
