William “Bud” Adams was born the son of Chester Adams and Marvel Range Adams on January 9, 1944, in Mammoth Spring, Arkansas, and departed this life December 31, 2017, in Jonesboro, Arkansas, at the age of 73 years.
He was united in marriage on February 15, 1964, in Thayer, Missouri, to Phyllis Ann Rhoades.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-three years, Phyllis Adams of the home in Thayer, Missouri; two children, Rhnea Adams and fiancé, Jason Oakes of Hardy, Arkansas and Matthew Adams and wife, Mandy of Viola, Arkansas; two precious granddaughters, Lauren Godwin and husband, Corey of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas and Maylee Adams of Viola, Arkansas; two special great grandsons, Landen and Chase Godwin of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas; his father-in-law, Hosea Rhoades of Thayer, Missouri; brother-in-law, Wayne Rhoades of Nixa, Missouri; sister-in-law, Janet Bowers and husband, Don of Thayer, Missouri; a special cousin, Terry Range of Thayer, Missouri; other relatives; and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Marvel Adams and his mother-in-law, Ann Rhoades.
Bud was a graduate of Thayer High School, graduating with the Class of 1962.
He and Phyllis owned and operated Adams Western Store for over fifty years.
Bud was a cattle farmer and one of the last true cowboys. He was an active member of the Thayer and Mammoth Spring Saddle Club for many years and was currently serving on the Board of Directors for the Missouri State Wagon Train.
Most of all, Bud enjoyed driving his team of mules and his wagon on the Gee and Haw Horse and Wagon Ride and also, the Missouri State Wagon Train and Trail Ride with his friends.
Bud was a Christian man and a member of the Thayer First Baptist Church.
He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. He will be greatly missed, but we have the peace of God knowing that he is with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at 2:00 PM at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer.
The family will receive friends at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, January 3rd from 12:00 Noon until service time at 2:00.
Burial will be in the Thayer Cemetery with services under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc. in Thayer.
In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions be made in Bud’s memory to Samaritan’s Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607.

Phyllis and family, I am so very sorry for your loss. Bud was a wonderful person. I remember hauling hay for him one summer when I was in my late teens and went on many trail rides with him. He will be missed by so many. Heaven has gained a real cowboy. Prayers for comfort and peace.

We are sorry to hear of Bud’s passing. We are forever grateful to Bud and Phyllis for
their help on July 20, 1968, when Jim was in a rodeo accident. They took care of our little girl
and Jim’s horse while we went on to the hospital in Memphis. Wonderful friends.

When Mom & I heard the news of Bud’s passing our hearts broke. You both have been such wonderful neighbors & friends to the Landes Family. I have such good memories of Bud- when Terry & I would be at the western store playing he was always so sweet & respectful to us. We always wanted to know what the “real cowboys” were doing at the store. He would always have a funny answer for us. When we got to close to the horses he was always watching out for us. Wonderful memories I will keep in my heart.

My heart goes out with deepest sympathy to the family of Bud. God knows your deep heartache and the many tears you shed and he wants to sustain you. In the Bible at 2 Corinthians 4:7 it says that God can give us, “… power beyond what is normal,” to go from one day to the next. This does not mean that we no longer cry or that we forget, but it means we recover. We can recover because of our hope. When Jesus was on earth he saw the grief that his friends Martha and Mary experienced at the death of their brother, Lazarus, the Bible says, “Jesus cried,” (John 11:35). Afterwards, he resurrected Lazarus. Everyone was so joyful at having Lazarus back with them. Jesus Christ talked about our hope in John 5:28, “… all those in the memorial tomb will hear his voice and come out.” Jesus was referring to the resurrection. This is our amazing hope that anchors us. Just like an anchor stabilizes a ship, our hope stabilizes us, keeps us from drowning in overwhelming sadness so we can go from one day to the next. It helps us recover and have the power to go on. Not only does God provide the Bible promises to comfort, he will also comfort you by moving people who care about you to give you help and words of encouragement that you need to hear. When he brings the reality of his promised resurrection, all your tears of pain will be replaced with tears of joy.

No words can express our sorrow for you right now. Our family always thought so much of the Adams family and always grateful for everything you did in helping with Mother (Lucille Martin Johnson). Will always remember Buddy giving me his boots when our home burnt, and remember when Buddy married you and how pretty you were at your wedding. We were long time neighbors and also school mates. Heaven gained an Angel and Buddy is riding his horse down the streets of gold. We will be remembering you in our prayers.
