Billie Gene Burkhead was born the son of Wilburn John Burkhead and Mary Blanche (Cloven) Burkhead on June 17, 1940, in Alton, Missouri, and departed this life October 2, 2015, in Thayer, Missouri, at the age of 75 years.

He was united in marriage on July 31, 1960, at Garfield, Missouri, to Wanda Sue Honeycutt.

He is survived by his wife, Sue Burkhead of the home in Thayer, Missouri; one son, Greg Burkhead and wife, Kim of Arab, Alabama; three grandsons, David Sorrell and wife, Leona of Leachville, Arkansas, Darrin Sorrell and wife, Lacey of Thayer, Missouri, and Brad Burkhead and wife, Mary of Atoka, Tennessee; seven great grandchildren, Angela Sorrell, Mason Sorrell, Rylee Jo Sorrell, Cade Sorrell, Matthew Sorrell, Tommy Stone and Gracie Sorrell; two brothers, Carl Burkhead and wife, Shirley of Mexico, Missouri, and Lonnie Burkhead and wife, Connie of Stillwell, Kansas; five sisters, Linda O’toole and husband, Bernard of Ogden, Utah, Vera Chrismer and husband, Bob of Winfield, Kansas, Lois Sutton and husband, Dennis of Fruitland Park, Florida, Betty Owen and husband, Gene of Mexico, Missouri, and Wilma Madrid and husband, John of Sedalia, Missouri; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Angie Sorrell; his parents, Wilburn and Blanche Burkhead.

Bill was a veteran of the United States Navy and worked as a carpenter for many years.

He enjoyed talking on his CB radio, attending auctions and hunting a bargain at yard sales. He was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed St. Louis Cardinals baseball.

He loved his friends and neighbors and always had time for a visit and to fellowship with them.

Bill was a strong Christian and a faithful member of Pleasant Hill Free Will Baptist Church, serving as deacon for many years. He had a strong, unwavering faith in the cross of Jesus Christ and strived daily to live his life as a true example for others to see.

He was a devoted and loving husband, father, Gramps and Papa. He will truly be missed by his family, friends and all that knew him.

Funeral services for Mr. Burkhead will be held, Monday, October 5, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer with Brother Jason Roberts, Brother Wayne Cloven and Brother Johnny Holesapple officiating.

The family will receive friends at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer on Monday, October 5th, from 12:30 PM until the time of service.

Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery near Thayer, Missouri.

    So sorry to hear of Bills passing my prayers an condolences to Sue an the family . Would of been there if knew it in time .
