Bertha (Sandridge) Grooms was born the daughter of Grover “Buck” Sandridge and Katie (Brenner) Sandridge on September 27, 1917, in Oregon County, Missouri, and departed this life June 2, 2015, at Mercy Villa in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of 97 years.
She was united in marriage on February 18, 1935, at Walnut Ridge, Arkansas, to Clyde Grooms, who preceded her in death on January 10, 2001.
She is survived by three children, Kay Case and husband, J.L. of Foristell, Missouri, James Grooms and wife, Sue of Couch, Missouri, and Ella Goans and husband, Frank of Springfield, Missouri; five grandchildren, Cheryl Livingston, Steve Case, Doug Goans, Clint Grooms, and Colleen Snethern; six great grandchildren, Elizabeth Baxter, William Snethern, Matt Case, Kevin Case, Aaron Livingston, and Emily Grooms; one great-great grandchild, Wyatt Baxter; one sister, Nelma Blankenship; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Buck and Katie Sandridge; her husband, Clyde Grooms; two brothers, Richard Sandridge and George Sandridge; and one sister, Louise Leu.
Bertha and Clyde met at the Bonds Church where she was converted and Clyde rededicated his life to Christ. They joined the Bonds Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School and Clyde led the singing and also served as Sunday School Superintendent. They were active members of the Couch Methodist Church as long as their health permitted.
Bertha will be remembered as a Christian lady with strong faith and loving devotion for her family. She will truly be missed by all who knew her.
Funeral services for Mrs. Grooms will be on Saturday, June 6, 2015 at 2:00 PM at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer, Missouri with Reverend Jeannette Bragg officiating.
The family will receive friends at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer on Friday evening, June 5th from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.
Burial will be in the Thayer Cemetery in Thayer, with services under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc in Thayer.
Donations in Bertha’s memory may be made to Mercy Hospice, 1570 W. Battlefield, Suite 110, Springfield, Missouri 65807 in honor of Carrie Stites, Primary Hospice Nurse.
