Kristine Amanda Wrinkles

Kristine Amanda Wrinkles, daughter of the late Derald Alan Ficken and Gail Ann Ficken (Auger), was born August 9, 1971 in West Plains, Missouri and passed away peacefully in her sleep at 2:22 a.m., Friday, January 27, 2023.

She is survived by her husband, Jeff Wrinkles, West Plains; three children, Michael Trout, Ashley Webb, and Margaret Murray; six grandchildren, Audree Rogers, Jade Webb, Marcus Webb, Bella Webb, Piper Trout, and Mythias Trout.

Memorial service will be held Wednesday, February 1, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. in Carter Funeral Home Chapel, West Plains Missouri.

Teresa Joann Rhodes

Teresa Joann Rhodes, daughter of the late Clarence M. Rhodes and Ada “Stevens” Rhodes, was born September 11, 1943 in Marion County, Arkansas, and died at Brooke Haven Healthcare in West Plains, Missousri, at the age of 79 years old.

She is survived by one daughter, Susan Cockrum, West Plains, Missouri and one adopted son, Michael Rhodes, West Plains, Missouri; two sisters, Joyce Mottie and June Hillhouse, and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; three children, Ricky Hattaway, Kelly Hattaway, and Robin Owens; one brother, Harold Rhodes, and two sisters, Ruth Hagar and Reba Ysidro.

Teresa loved children. She was a psychometrist in the state of Oklahoma, working with children who had disabilities of all types. She also had worked as a special education teacher. She loved to do needle point work, and enjoyed spending time with her family. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Pontiac Cemetery, Pontiac, Missouri.

Anna Christene Pauli

Anna Christene Pauli was born the daughter of Leamon Cordey Frey and Martha Lee Greer on September 28, 1927, at Alton, Missouri and departed this life on January 25, 2023, at her home in Thayer, Missouri at the age of 95 years.

She was united in marriage on June 3, 1945, in Garfield, Missouri to John Lee Pauli and they were happily married for seventy-four and half years. While living on the farm for 58 years, she was a good wife and helpmeet, using her abilities to cook, care and sew for her family. Christene worked as a chiropractic assistant for Dr. T.J. Stickel, Dr. Thomas Dovell and Dr. Keith. Upon retiring, she took up needlework, making quilts, baby quilts and tea towels. Her other interests were painting pictures on canvas and enjoying all of her grandkids.

She loved gospel music and as a young girl sang with her sister, Jean while playing Guitar on the radio in Oklahoma. Later she traveled with John singing with her great alto voice in a quartet on weekends.

She is survived by two daughters, Janet Bradshaw (Doyle) of West Plains, Missouri and Leanna Johnson (Freddie Darrell) of Thayer, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Paul Bradshaw (Shelly) of West Plains, Missouri, Steven Bradshaw (Brooke) of Independence, Missouri, Bradley Guy (Rhaquinda) of Mountain View, Missouri, Addison Guy (Sara) of Couch, Missouri, Angela Klem (Jeff) of Basehor, Kansas, Darrell Johnson (Lori) of DeSoto, Kansas and Dixie Reddish (Edmund) of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas; twenty-seven great-grandchildren, fourteen great-great grandchildren, two sisters Jewelene Grooms and Mary Jane Honeycutt of Thayer, Missouri; one brother Billy Frey (Linda) of St. Charles, Missouri; special friend Diane, numerous relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents; her in-laws; one brother; one brother in-law; two sister’s in-law; one nephew and one granddaughter.

Her servants heart was shown always to her family, friends, neighbors through all she accomplished. She leaves a lasting legacy.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer, Missouri. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 31, 2023, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Carter Funeral Home in Thayer, Missouri.

Interment will be on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, in Pleasant Hill/Ary Town Cemetery, Thayer, Missouri with services under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc. in Thayer, Missouri.

James Clifford Smith Jr.

James Clifford Smith Jr., of West Plains, Missouri passed away on January 18, 2023. James was born in Davenport, Iowa to James and Jeanetta (Nute) Smith on December 27, 1959. James loved to fish, hunt, and watch Nascar. He also enjoyed spending time with Roberta’s grandchildren.
James is survived by life partner, Roberta Eckert of West Plains, Missouri, sister, Pat (Larry) Richter of Blue Grass, Iowa, nephew, Billy (Dawn) Wailand of Davenport, Iowa, nephew, Danny (Sonya) Wailand of Jacksonville, Florida, niece, Tonya (Jason) Strong of Blue Grass, Iowa, niece, Terri Cheville of Blue Grass, Iowa, nephew, Tommy (Reina) Fierce of West Plains, Missouri, nephew, Travis (Rodney) Fierce of Sonoma, California, brother-in-law, Tom Fierce Sr., and lots of great nieces & nephews.
James is proceeded in death by his parents, sisters; Debbie Fierce and Donna Wailand and nephew, Tim-O Fierce.

Ora “Oneta” Stevens

Ora “Oneta” Stevens, daughter of the late Walter Lee Watson and Elsie Bay Watson, was born September 30, 1933 in Thomasville, Missouri and died peacefully surrounded by family on January 13th, 2023 in Ballwin, Missouri at the age of 89 years old.

She is survived by her two daughters, Carmen Walsh and husband Joseph of Lake St. Louis, Missouri and Lynda Stevens Kovis of Ballwin, Missouri. Oneta had five grandchildren, Megan Wallace and husband Skylar of Seneca, Missouri, Kelly Martin and husband Nick of Ashland, Missouri, Kristy Kovis of Seneca, Missouri, Bryan Walsh and fiancé Emillee and Cullen Walsh of Lake St. Louis Missouri. Her pride and joy revolved around her eight great grandchildren, Will, Wilder, Myla, Jada, Lily, Lucy, Hannah, and Ava. She is also survived by two of her siblings, sister, Nadean Young of Andover, Massachusetts and brother, Gene Watson and wife Della of West Plains, Missouri, and many special nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband William (Bill) R. Stevens; three sisters, Pauline Winchester, Ruby McQuigg, Opal Campbell, and three brothers, Clarence Watson, Ray Watson, and Glen Earl Watson.

Oneta attended the Smith Chapel Church in West Plain, Missouri while her family lived in the area.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to the family to help with funeral costs.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at 12:30 p.m. at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel, West Plains, Missouri.

Visitation will be held Saturday, January 21, 2023 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Burial will be in Jolliff Cemetery, Oregon County, Missouri, under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc., West Plains.

Bobby Joe Vandiver

Bobby Joe Vandiver, 64 of Koshkonong, Missouri passed away January 17, 2023, at his home surrounded by loved ones. Bobby Joe was born January 21, 1958, in Thayer, Missouri to Belvin “Bob” and Betty (Wilson) Vandiver.

Bobby Joe married the love of his life Margie Garrett on May 2, 1980, in Koshkonong, Missouri. Within this union they had three children.

Bobby Joe was a vivid outdoors man. He loved going hunting, fishing and spending time with his family. Occasionally he would go to the West Plains Speedway racetrack with his brothers and go riding around with them on one of their many driving adventures. There was never a dull moment around him at all, he was full of energy and was a little bit on the ornery side. He loved teasing and joking around with everyone.

He was a wonderful husband, father and papa. He loved his family and he cherished every minute he had with them. Some will say he was the best papa ever. He attended the Freewill Baptist church in Koshkonong, Missouri.

He is survived by his wife Margie; one son Joey, wife Keena and one daughter Amber Harlan, husband Adam; six grandkids Jasmyn, Kynslee, Kolt, Kansys, Channing and arriving soon Axel Joe; two brothers Johnnie, wife Tammy, and Jim, wife Anna; two sisters Betty Neal and Paula Nelson, husband Rodney; along with numerous family and friends

He is preceded in death by one infant son Bradley Joe; his parents, one infant sister; his mother-n-law Virginia; one brother-n-law Bernard Neal.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 20, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer, Missouri. Visitation will be Thursday, January 19 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Carter Funeral Chapel in Thayer, Missouri.

Carol Jewell

Mary “Carol” (Webb) Jewell Passed away peacefully in her home on Monday, January 16, 2023. Carol was born December 24, 1946, in St. Louis, Missouri. The fifth of Frank and Mary Bell Webb’s eight children. She moved to rural Howell County in 1955 and attended Koshkonong School. Outgoing and studious, she caught the eye of young Kenneth Jewell on the school bus one day. A few years after graduation they were wed. They spent 54 happily married years together.

Carol was inspired by nature and had an abiding appreciation and respect for all living things. An eternal optimist, she had a knack for finding four leaf clovers. She loved music, and she loved to laugh. She could relate to most situations in life back to a “Seinfield” episode.

She is survived by her husband, Ken; Son, David, wife Jill of Gibbon, Nebraska; daughter Dianna, husband Kevin Lindau & son, Elton of Mammoth Springs, Arkansas; grandson Briar, wife Kristen & sons; Mason and Jett of Elm Creek, Nebraska; granddaughter, Jessie, partner Damian of Kearney, Nebraska; three brothers; Eugene, wife Carol, John (Biggie), wife Barb, and Jack (Little), wife Debbie all of St. Louis Missouri as well as one sister, Jill Clubbs and husband John of Doniphan, Missouri; three sisters-in-law, Joyce Haynes, husband Jerry (Foley, AL), Jackie Mowdy, husband Marlon of Mountain Home, Arkansas and Alba Diane Scarbrough, husband Fred of Mammoth Springs, Arkansas. She leaves behind many nieces, nephews, friends, acquaintances, and memories.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Mary Bell Webb, parent-in-laws Ted and Ruby Jewell; one brother, Joseph; two sisters; Joy and Janet; one half-sister, Isabelle; two nieces; Beth and Theresa, and brother-in-law, Thomas Comeau.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 19, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer, Missouri. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 18 from 5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer, Missouri.

Joan L. Manker

Joan L. (Van Valkenburg) Manker, age 87, of Thayer, Missouri departed this life on January 11, 2023, in Thayer, Missouri. Joan was born on September 24, 1935, to William Van Valkenburg and Leila (Hall) Van Valkenburg in Long Prairie, Minnesota.

Joan was a marvelous homemaker, avid gardener and community member. She was devoted to her family and her family always came first. She will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband by her husband William “Bud” Manker of Thayer, Missouri; one daughter Loraine of Pueblo West, Colorado; one son Steve and his wife of Maple Plain, Minnesota; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one son Russell.

Interment was private at Davis Cemetery, Thayer, Missouri.

Melba Ruth Hayes

Melba Ruth (Ferguson) Hayes, 92 of Thayer, Missouri passed away in West Plains, Missouri on January 9, 2023. Ruth was born December 11, 1930, in Granite City, Illinois to Sherman and Maggie (Slawson) Ferguson.

Ruth married the love of her life Donald Hayes in Granite City, Illinois on December 25, 1959.

Ruth was of the Pentecostal faith and attended Midway Pentecostal Church in Thayer, Missouri. She played the organ at church and loved going to the lady’s retreats. She volunterred at Shady Oaks, loved to put puzzles together and enjoyed crafts.

Ruth is survived by one daughter Doris Faye (Hayes) Roppo, husband Michael of Colorado; five grandchildren Everett Roppo of Colorado, Carrie Ranisate of Arizona, Robbin (Rob) Roppo of Colorado, Benjamin Roppo of Colorado and Joshua Roppo of Virginia; and three great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; two very special nieces, plus many more nephews, nieces and friends.

Ruth is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters Dorothy Aldridge and Phoebe Knecht; four brothers Lowell, Raymond, Ralph and Robert Ferguson.

Funeral services will be Thursday, January 12, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer, Missouri. Visitation will be held Thursday January 12, from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service at 2:00 p.m.

Interment will be Thursday, January 12 at Shiloh Grand Gulf Cemetery in Koshkonong, Missouri.
