Mildred Laverne Davenport departed this life on Wednesday, October 30, 2019, at the age of 91 years, 11 months, and 30 days. She was born October 31,1927 to George and Effie Smith in Sharp County, Arkansas. Laverne met the love of her life and was united in marriage to William “Bill” Davenport on January 10,1946. They were blessed with 69 years together. During this time they had three children, Linda (Russell) Bassham of Hardy, AR, Dale (Brenda) Davenport of Van Buren, MO, and Denise (Dan) Hilton of Hardy, AR. She is survived by six grandchildren, Gayla Bassham, John Ivey, Janna Himschoot, Aaron Davenport, Charity Hilton, and Savannah Pogue, and ten great grandchildren, Austin, Brianna, Lena, Benton, Zachary, Judah, Alex, Ben, Curtis, and Amos. She is also survived by one sister, Geneva Newsom.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, three brothers, and one sister.
Laverne was a Christian and a charter member of New Hope Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for more than 60 years. She also served as treasurer for many years.
Laverne truly believed that “idle hands were the devil’s workshop.” She filled her days taking care of her family, working in
her vegetable and flower gardens, making many, many beautiful quilts, crocheted doilies.and numerous other crafts for her children and grandchildren.
Laverne leaves as her legacy, her Christian faith, her love and dedication for family, and the impact she made on people’s lives, especially the many children she taught over the years.
Funeral Services for Mildred Laverne Davenport, 91, Hardy, Arkansas, will be 11:00am Saturday, November 2, 2019, at the New Hope Baptist Church, Hardy Arkansas under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Thayer.
Family visitation will be 10:00am till service time
Burial will be in McCullough Cemetery, Hardy, Arkansas

Mrs. Laverne will be sorely missed by all that knew her and loved her. She was truly a godly woman. We are keeping her family in our prayers during this very difficult time.
